Things are worth what someone is willing to pay, nothing more. Maybe folks at just willing to pay more because Ping?

Not sure there is a "why" outside of that.

I think Ping is great at making products that most people can play with some ease.  They have been great at building and designing super forgiving drivers that look good and are durable.  I love Titleist but I have found that from one line to the next, I can love it or hate it.  With Ping, you kind of know what to expect and that can be comforting in any market, used or new.

Ping has a reputation for being easy to hit. That's something that appeals both top players and your avg hack and ping has had the rep for years. Ping is kind of like the toyota camry or honda accord of golf clubs. As someone else said, you know exactly what you are getting. Nothing flashy, but it just works.

Titleist makes great clubs but has still not totally been able to shake the "players only" rep despite having clubs that appeal to more players. However that's really only something titleist has done in their latest series of irons (T series).

Both companies make great clubs Ping is just an easier sell to a large group of people

Possibly the target market for Titleist clubs more “brand new and shiny”orientatated than the folks who buy Ping. But I think durability of the appearance is a bigger factor. My AP2 set looked more “used” after 20 rounds than my set of Ping G irons did after 100 rounds.

Ping clubs seem to wear better...or the wear is less noticeable because of the design and finish. Titleist clubs look great, but take on wear quickly.

I agree with "aswile's" assessment.

People are still playing Eye2 irons, but I can't think of any clubs, Titleist or others, that are still being played from the early 90's era.

PING is super vigilant about preventing any retail sales below MRSP.  They bring the hammer down on any seller who is caught violating this, whether it’s a big box or a small pro shop.  Look at any website- all sales/coupons will exclude PING clubs.  I think this helps boost resale values a bit since there is little/no discounted new product to compete with.

Might have to do with the amount of Eye2 still available vs. the others as well as price.  Pre covid, you could pretty easily find a set (non becu obi) for around $100 CDN.

Let me find some 90's Tour blades for that same price and I assure you I would have many sets...

It could also be that the market is not saturated with their products.  Ping and Titleist (among a few others) don't come out with something once or twice a year like Cally and TM do.  The trade-in/resale on Cally and TM products are a joke.  It may be a bit better with the increase in play since Covid, but historically Ping and Titleist have had some of the best resale around.

Ping and Titleist never fell into the 6 month life cycle trap.

I remember for years in our pro shop a new Titleist driver would come out and within the first 4-5 weeks we would have a ton of orders from the lower handicap crowd. And then came the guys that thought they where part of the "players" crowd. Then the following season , maybe 1/4 to 1/2 the sales from the current model. I will go as far back as 1998-99 when the original 200, 300, and 400 series Vokey's cam out; I think it was 4-5 years before we saw changes from Titleist. The club building guys started to do the chrome stripping, Gun Metal & Tour Satin finishes, CNC milling the grooves, K-M-C grinds, porting and metal slugs.

Ping fell into the same , pardon the pun , mold! Longer product life cycles, or slight cosmetic changes. With Ping you add in the serialized specification tracking and you have resale heaven. That is not even counting the fact they used a very durable alloy to cast their irons , putters , an wedges. The softest material they ever cast in was copper , and even that the alloyed it with Beryllium to harden the alloy. Plus toss the very strict account rules the resellers are under , and you have a brand that was built around protecting its brand name which it created.

The other one that fell under these circumstances was Mizuno to an extent.
