Has there ever been a weaker withdrawal from a tournament than Hovland's? The answer is no. Tiger played the same course and a playoff on a broken leg, yet Vic can't take a grain of sand to the eye? Come flymow and blow clippings out of 60 + bunkers for 5 hours 3 - 4 times per week with sand constantly nailing your corneas and try to pull that bullxxxx. Or you could just man up. Those Oklahoma State players seem pretty soft. He was so proud of his eyepatch. Like he earned it for being so tough.

Correct. This is Hovland's first W/D since he turned professional. Some people here are just bitter about everything.

Yeah, not being able to see out of one eye is conducive to playing good golf.

What a horrible take. Assuming you are a guy on a crew by your post. If you aren’t wearing sun/safety glasses while flymowing/ blowing bunkers you’re not smart. A guy on our crew was dragging greens and while blowing off his mat got sand in his eye and scratched his eye. Missed 3 days and his eye was filled with blood for a week. Sounds like he’s a pansy too. 56 years old and worked on crews for over 30 years, was on the crew that built our course.

Stuff happens, have some empathy.

Negative. Used to be on the crew. It's correct that s*** happens (and we take all safety measures), but you're a softy if you withdraw from the tournament because you got a scratch on your eye from sand. As you know, that is a daily occurrence every time you operate a blower, or drive by a bunker on a windy day, or pass a buffalo blower. You just have to deal with the pain and move on.

I'm assuming that you are one of the managers that sits in the shop all day. You probably also have a dog that you drive around. Meaning that you don't do any actual work, but want to find some way to be popular and have an excuse for never doing anything.

VH playing the US Open

Not blowing clippings

Im sure if he were blowing clippings he’d have finished his shift because

There’s just a slight difference in the precision and level of split second execution required between the two.

But there’s no point to trying to play the US Open

When you can’t see.

Well, he said that the sand didn’t come out. If that’s the case I can see how there’s no way he could play.

Doesn’t strike me as an arrogant kid who would walk off because he’s playing poorly and then go through the whole charade of going to an eye doctor, getting an eye patch, and drafting a PR.

I mean, he’s playing golf! Why not just enjoy the day, work on your swing, finish and grab some food? ; )

I’m assuming he scratched his cornea given the eye patch, this happened to me long ago in high school and it does feel terrible. It feels like a knife is stuck in your eye and lasted for several days, although the cornea does heal pretty quickly. The only thing that made the pain go away was having my eye closed with that eye patch and sleeping. It was interesting to me later when I went though medical school that they supposedly don’t do the eye patch anymore for scratched corneas, as it was pure torture without it on for me, although I could be a pansy.  It freaking hurt though, I remember that like it was yesterday and that was thirty years ago. I’d say it’s legit.
