Callaway DCB irons—is the stated length on Callaway website longer than actual

So I ordered a set of Callaway DCB irons. Have so far received the 5 and 6 irons with the 7-AW coming 

due to supply issues. No problem there as I understand the supply problems OEM’s are having.

My question is the 5 iron measures 37 3/4 inches and the 7 iron measures 37. There website

indicates these irons are 38.25 for the 5 iron and 37.50 for the six iron. I compared these to a set of 

Ping G 410 irons that I am currently using and the 5 iron (Callaway) is a half inch shorter than the Ping

even though both websites indicate that both 5 irons are 38.25. Same for the six iron 1/2 inch shorter than the Ping.

  Has anyone else experienced this. Should I send them back or is this the norm. Just does not seem right

to me. Ant thoughts out there? Thanks

My Callaway irons aren’t from the website but I’ve had a discussion with Wilson about a similar topic that I’m disgusted with... complete bafoonery. With how busy they are, I doubt they’ll respond kindly.

Have you considered how they measure? I know this has come up before in that OEM's (as well as everyone else) seems to have a slightly different way to measure.

 

Not saying you didn't get hosed, just pointing out a possibility.

What he said. Likely just a variance in the way that they’re measured. It comes up with other manufacturers also. As long as the Callaway irons come in consistently with the length, like you’re have, that’s likely what it is.

Funny thing. I went back to Edwin Watts later today with my pings and 

with the new Callaway’s. When they measured the length of the Pings

they are spot on to the Ping Website. However when they measured the

Callaways they are both 1/2 short of the specs on the website.

i don’t understand that. I guess I will have to call Callaway tomorrow.

How are you hitting them?  I bought a set of those over the winter with the Dart 75 shaft.  Going from stiff steel JPX825's.  They feel a similar length to what I am used to.

Yes Callaway irons are measured differently than some OEMs.  The 38 5 iron length is actually 37 3/4 by traditional measurement.  If you stand a Callaway 5 iron in store on its butt next to a Titleist 5 iron you will notice the 1/4 inch difference.  I always order my Callaway irons 1/4 inch long, also gives me a smidge more swing weight.

This doesn't really answer the question directly since there doesn't seem to be any input from Callaway on their specific methods but it does give a good overview of the complexity and lack of standards when it comes to length measurements.

Unfortunately, there is no one single traditional method for measuring nor has there really ever been.

Thanks all for replying. I may just send the back and order a new set at 1/2 inch 

longer than there standard. Edwin Watts was surprised that they were shorter 

than what is stated on website and will do whatever necessary to make me happy.
