Travelers Championship 2021

Post major blues might be abound but the Tour carries on and this week heads back to Connecticut for the Travelers Championship. It is a tournament which seems to have gotten stronger over the years, with low scoring usually the order of the day with TPC River Highlands being the course that Furyk shot his famous 58. With five of the top 10 in the OWGR teeing it up there are plenty of big names about to keep everything interesting after an exciting finish to the 3rd major of the year last week.

Defending Champion:-

Dustin Johnson

Notables in the Field:-

Patrick Cantlay

Paul Casey

Bryson DeChambeau

Tony Finau

Rickie Fowler

Max Homa

Dustin Johnson

Brooks Koepka

Phil Mickelson

Patrick Reed

Justin Rose

Adam Scott

Bubba Watson

Matt Wolff

Course:-

TPC River Highlands

Par 70

6,841 Yards

Feels like a tournament Paul Casey may pull off a win.

Funny, when I saw that he was playing, that was exactly my thought. I have recollections of him running Bubba pretty close in years gone by.

I'll take Bubba ftw.  Has won here a couple of times.  Played pretty well at Torrey all things considered.  As a darkhorse maybe Kevin Streelman who had a good US Open despite a weak Sunday.  Also a winner here he birdied I want to say the last 7 holes on Sunday the year he won.

Been spending a fair amount of time researching British newspaper archives going way back to when golf was first reported just for fun.  "British Open" referring to the golf championship is used by journalists in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland with regularity over the decades.  Of course, it also is used to refer to championships in curling, squash and snooker, lol.  Which makes me wonder if the change to make it known as "The Open Championship" was branding and marketing, which I'm sure it was, and maybe to give it a bit of loftier status, lol.

Anyway, it is now and for many years been officially known as "The Open Championship" and Americans of a certain age (me) and some journalists still occasionally refer to it as the "British Open".  Maybe we shouldn't now it's been officially something else for quite some time, but darn it . . . . it's not our fault!

Other habits we can claim "not to be our fault."

Back on CBS thank the lord! If this tournament was on NBC Jimmy Roberts would have a 10 minute segment about the umbrella that's in the middle of the pond by 15.

Also means I can stream the broadcast 😁 im running out of 7 day free trials here. Hulu, youtube.tv, and fubo are all tapped. Only have philo tv left for the Open Championship!

I’m sure there’s an inner circle of "influential" art collectors that assembled under the guise of an "investment meeting" and decided to market the British Open as The Open.  This may or may not be a picture from that meeting.  The guy in the blue tie, - yeah, his last name is Morris, first name is Thomas.

The Open has only ever been officially called The Open Golf Championship, or simply Open Golf Championship, it started getting referred to as the Biritish Open when there became an open competition in each country, there use to be the welsh open, English open, Scottish open, Irish open etc etc, it caused less confusion

True, and I should correct something - what I meant was what has been the intentional emphasis relatively recently in history on making sure it is known as The Open Championship.  You may be right on the more or less confusion, certainly makes sense.  But some suggest "British Open" came about more as an American journalist driven description, as if nobody over there called it that,  when in fact the term originated across the pond and was a common way of describing the event in the press over there for almost 100 years - hand in hand really with "The Open".
