Hey WRX....

 

Ventus Velocore lineup, are any WRX'ers using the Ventus Red in Driver and Ventus Blue in Fairways?

 

Seems pretty common to see Blue in the Driver and Red in the Fairways. 

 

Right now, it seems I get best results with Red in Driver and Blue in Fairways. 

 

My unsolved question is, how much does the Red Driver need to be tipped?

Nothing ever 'needs' to be tipped in driver. It's all player preference.

 

The manufacturer spec is no tipping recommended. Anything more than that is to tune your feel for the club if you need lower spin/launch. You could also potentially use a tipped shaft if you play driver heads at D4+ SW.

Ok, thats a good starting point.

 

If you take a look at the launch/spin numbers that should tell you what you need to do - but generally if the driver head is over the standard 200g for whatever reason and your launch is over 14deg (example) and your spin is over 3000rpm (example) you can tip the shaft .5 to start and that should bring the launch down a fraction and spin down maybe 150-200rpm and make the tip 'feel' slightly stiffer. 1" would double this - in theory.

 

This is only for tip stiffness, though. If the mid and butt feel too soft for you and are causing issues then the Ventus Red may not be the shaft for you.

I am a mid launch guy now, but was more of a low launch guy in my younger days, and as such, I played many low flex point shafts.  I got used to really stiff handles in my drivers and fairway woods.   Because of that the Red fits me amazingly from a feel perspective.   However I was not getting the launch I wanted.

 

As I prefer to play a cut, like heavier handle stiff shafts I decided to try the red.  In the end I ended up using all of the parallel tip section between tipping (1.75") and insertion into my adapter (1.25").   

 

For me, this accomplished two things. 

1. I have a handle that is super stiff, and feels perfectly.

2. It brought down the launch a smidge and the spin a smidge as well.  (Close to me like the black launch numbers, but with better feel......for me)\\

Red in both here.  6S tipped .5" in driver, 7S not tipped in 4w.

My gamer this season is a TSi2 11* head with Red Velocore 6S playing to 44.75" ungripped

Driver setup has the black 6x tipped 1 inch, 3 wood has the blue 7x tipped 1 inch, and the 5 wood has the blue 8x tipped 1 inch. 

Best shafts ever made IMO.

I have a blue 6X on the way for my driver and I am excited to try this shaft after reading all of the positive feedback.
