There’s no evidence for that, the rota for Scotland could easily be ten or more courses (it’s frequently taken over parts of two courses at Gullane for example).

I guess you and I went to different schools, but twice doesn't indicate "frequently" to me.  Hardly "no evidence" members don't want to give up their course.

I’ll try to watch it. The course looks green which I can relate to. When it’s held on dead grass where I don’t know where the fairway ends and the green starts I lose interest. I acknowledge I’m probably pretty shallow.

I love the yearly Open vs British Open arguments, they mean links golf is close!

Ha! I know. I think I first joined WRX in, like 2010 or something. And the exact same discussions/arguments were going on about The Open vs. The British Open. Its a time honored tradition. Obviously never resolved. But it is like a soccer match that ends 0 - 0. The fun isn't in the final score, it is in the vehemence and elegance of the playing.

On the bright side, the argument generally mostly disappears as soon as the first group tees off (the argument is sort of the discussion board equivalent of the players doing their preparations). But once golf starts, discussions turn to golf.

Not certain why, maybe has something to do with the harshness of the past year and a half, but I am REALLY looking forward to this tourney. I'm ready for something great. Like set my alarm for 4 AM Thursday ready.

The dead look is what I love about the links course. Reminds me of some of our old munis. The ball rolls forever and the short game is more on the ground. It’s just what golf is suppose to look like. We water way too much over here. I must admit though spring at Augusta looks amazing also.

I think it comes on about 4pm in Japan. It's a pretty lit Sunday evening...

I am really looking forward to watching this one. It was one of the first British Open courses I remember sitting and watching - Norman in 93 I think it was. The golf played then, wood woods. I've played the course on Top tracer a bunch now and the fly over video is just awesome.

Five reasons The Open is my second favorite major:

-cup of coffee at sunrise out my window and the gorgeous Royal St George’s on my tv

-the Himalaya bunker

-30 yard putts

-watch the golf in the morning, go play golf mid day, watch the replay in the evening

-the possibility of seeing a chap my age or older contend

Dcham, strategy?  Bomb and gouge?

longer, lush, and not tight compared to the other rota courses. His miss could well be on spectator walkways, He's insanely good from heavy lies..

Against him, he didnt contend at the last two Masters and threw away the US open. Im team Bryson but Id really like him to turn it down a notch off the tee

Just saw Rahm on the range beside Brooks.  I laughed a little. Man he’s small.  Rahms thighs are as big as Bruce’s  waist.

And it’s a real shame that the Scottish is stuck at an ultra private course for another few years apparently. All the historic links that the Scots, Irish (and Welsh and French) pass up in the name of lucre. Grotesque.

I know my course hosted the Scottish Open; was offered it the next year and said no. This year we have a Paul Lawrie tournament and the Scottish Senior Open; that is enough. The Walker Cup and The Amateur Championship to me where the better ones to host. Walking into the clubhouse and standing at the bar with Ernie Els and my dad was pretty sweet though during the Scottish Open.

And if the members of these historic links don't want to give up their course for multiple weeks?

Exactly. I hit the stand on the right of the 18th the days after that was a weird experience. The effects on the course easily last 2 weeks. I have experienced it playing Austin Country Club after the WGC there and its the same.

The Scottish Open is split funded by ABRDN for whatever they are called and the Scottish Government. Up until he retired it was Martin Gilberts decision to where it was played; I have no idea now how it is decided. Scotland has a lot of good courses. Tr ump wanted it but was shot down numerous times.

Brilliant just now with DJ =

I called the tournament the British Open growing up and now I call it The Open Championship. The reporter asked why and he said that's because it is what it is called!

classic DJ.

Xander is my new Zach Johnson

I won’t wish him bad luck and will probably enjoy seeing him win if he does. I like anybody who wins.

But I won’t root for him and may smirk a bit if he hits it in the tall grass 🤣

Or miss a 4 ft putt, same with Morikawa.  If they could putt they could win a ton of majors, imo.
