Awesome!! It’s guys like Sam making it through that show there is still some romanticism about The Open.

Agreed, I hope they keep the current format, a sprinkling of tour pros with the young up and coming pros/amateurs.

Question for the UK guys.

I attend a monthly zoom with ~20 people from various parts of the world.  There is a guy who when signing in says, "It's David from UK."

Why does he not use the article, the when referring to his location?

He should. It's the United Kingdom, just as it is the United States.

Yes. Of course. I used the recognized abridged version. Sorry if that caused offence.

Technical then it is also the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Ferguson's zoom call could take some time to get started!

What is the British Open????

The Open Championship???

They can call it anything they want, doesn't mean the branding is correct or truthful.

U.S. Open--68 spots available thru regional qualifying

Brexit Open--12

The Open Championship was in San Diego last month.

True, but approximately 40 spots are available for top finishers in 12 tournaments around the world who are not otherwise exempt.

I’ve heard a few are skipping the event due to the covid conditions for playing.

Si-Woo Kim & Sungjae Im have withdrawn from competing at The Open Championship to focus on the Tokyo Olympics.

They have been replaced by Keegan Bradley & Emiliano Grillo.

I believe an Olympic medal exempts South Korean's from some or all of their national service.

Imagine that pressure, win a medal in the Olympics or lose two years of your golfing career (I think i saw that South Koreas military service is two years?)

No one is confused.

The British Open is "the major of two names."   And you know something, I'm good with that.

Been to all of those. Avg elevation doesn’t really explain the 6-9 ft moguls everywhere. It’s not flat at all except the first and 18th tee. It doesn’t have Augusta elevation changes but it’s not flat relatively.

Either you get St Andrews or you don't.  Bobby Jones - "If I had one round left to play, it would be at St Andrews."  And I agree.

Same as the Canadians who say they are going to hospital.  No the.

The British Open. The Open Championship. Heck, that one major that’s not in the United States 😂 I think we all know what someone means when using any of those. I like what someone said earlier. “The major with two names”.
I prefer calling it the British Open. If someone wants to tell me I’m wrong… Oh well, don’t care.
So if you’re that person that says “you mean the Open Championship?” When someone says the British Open… 🙄
