I attend a monthly zoom with ~20 people from various parts of the world.  There is a guy who when signing in says, "It's David from UK."

 

Why does he not use the article, the when referring to his location?

True, but approximately 40 spots are available for top finishers in 12 tournaments around the world who are not otherwise exempt.

Si-Woo Kim & Sungjae Im have withdrawn from competing at The Open Championship to focus on the Tokyo Olympics. 

 

They have been replaced by Keegan Bradley & Emiliano Grillo.

I believe an Olympic medal exempts South Korean's from some or all of their national service.

The British Open. The Open Championship. Heck, that one major that’s not in the United States 😂 I think we all know what someone means when using any of those. I like what someone said earlier. “The major with two names”. 
I prefer calling it the British Open. If someone wants to tell me I’m wrong… Oh well, don’t care.
So if you’re that person that says “you mean the Open Championship?” When someone says the British Open… 🙄

Always strikes me as odd that South Korea can't make exemptions for some of these guys.

Making exemptions from compulsory military service isn’t a recipe for a successful national defense program. South Korea needs a strong one.
