Going from heaviest/stiffest iron shafts to something lighter.

I have always played the heaviest and stiffest steel shafts out there in the 125-130g range (px7.0, 120tx, x7) but I have recently thought more and more and switching it up and going to something lighter in the 110-115g range.  I guess the reason it's been more on my mind is because I recently picked up on like new set of irons that had 105g regular shafts.  Of course I was just planning on pulling the shafts right up but I went out the day I got them just to hit them before pulling them apart.  The range was closed due to rain so I just went out and played a few holes with them.  I was just swinging real easy with them and I was still getting normal full distances I'm use to with much less effort.  Naturally if I attempted to swing anywhere close to full speed I would lose the face and just flare it off high and right.  But it got me thinking...80% of my on course swings with irons are trying to play a knockdown/flighted type of shot.  What about finding a similarly weighted shaft in the 110-115 range that I could still swing easier with and get full distances I'm used to but shaft stable enough to be able to mostly control on the shots where I'm needing to swing closer to full speed on.

I've been thinking mostly about steelfibers 110 x, c-taper light(115g) X hardstepped, c-taper stiff(120g) hardstepped, modus 105 x(112g) hardstepped, PX 6.0 (120g) hardstepped).  I know MMT's are the popular graphite choice currently but I'm not wanting to spend that kind of money at this point.  Any other recommendations other than the ones I listed?

Has anyone else tried this recently or thinking about it?  If so, what were your thoughts/experiences?

You could also look at the Project X LZ or the new IO.

I recently switched from True Temper S300's(130g) to Project X IO 6.0(110g).  They are just easier for me to load on normal swings.  I've only had them a week, but so far so good.

I'll look into the IO.  LZ isn't my cup of tea visually with the weird ripple look.

I've played 6.5s forever and they felt great to me in a demo. The look of the IO is nice in person, similar to old satin PX but a bit darker.

Switched from KBS Tour x-stiff +1” length to DG 120 x100’s +1/2”.

Swing fatigue was becoming an issue with the heavier clubs if I practiced and/or played too much.

46y/o 115 driver, 90 mph 7i fwiw

edit:  during my fitting, I tried many combos down to 105g and S,S+ and x flexes (under the mantra of “swing the lightest shaft you can control” and get the trajectory you want/need).  My flights didn’t change much at all on stock swings with most combos, but the x performed the best when I stepped on it and I was able to flight them down at higher speeds with less effort than the others.

I liked the look of the LZ in black.  Almost went that direction too.

I do like the look of black or a brushed stepless shaft.

I've never had much of an issue with the S300's but I was definitely surprised how much easier it was to load the IO 6.0.  I have a smooth tempo and 90mph 7 iron swing speed for reference.  I bounce between X and S depending on the shaft and club.  I definitely prefer my irons to feel softer.

Based off of this, I would probably need to at least hardstep the 6.5 IO.
