Anyone else done with Hybrids?

Yeah, that’s an option I’m definitely curious about. I’ve never hit a 5 wood, but have definitely had success with the 3 wood in the past.

You are looking for a 5 wood or a 7 wood.  Quit messing around with hybrids, I purchased numerous ones over the years and they always seemed to let me down when I needed them most.  I now carry a 3,5,7 wood and have zero desire to replace any of them with a hybrid.  Some peoples swings just don't work with a hybrid.  It's the reason players like Tiger and DJ have gone with 5 or 7 woods, and not hybrids.  Quit trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Yeah, I’m just North of Toronto and demand for golf equipment is through the roof here.

Demand is crazy everywhere.  I have been wanting a set of i210 irons forever.  Almost bit the bullet and ordered a set, knowing I wouldn't get them until September.  Finally found a near-new set on ebay yesterday and pulled the trigger.  They have DG 105 R300 shafts, but I'm going to reshaft with Recoil 110 F5 anyway.  I can sell the stock shafts and recoup a bit of cash along the way.  I was pretty lucky I decided to search for the i210s yesterday when I did.  Someone else would have surely snatched them up pretty quickly.

I must be a different type of unicorn, because I have to hit hybrids like I hit a fairway wood or I will hook them off the planet. I use the advice given in this video at the 1:30 mark. YMMV

Tried the techniques in this video just now at the Driving Range, and they helped big time!! Might give the Hybrid a little more time after all! Thanks! 😁

Mine are staying in the bag for now. I play Sr shaft 4, 5 and 6 G410, and they are a game changer. The 4 was on a whim for a lower ball flight, and has saved so many pars when in trouble. They are very accurate and long as well. The best buy ever in golf clubs for me, after the G Max.

I have not had good luck with hybrids in the past. Just like most, I tend to hook them. A few years ago I hit a buddy of mine's Callaway X2 Hot hybrids on the range and ended up using them in our round at Tobacco Road. I hit them really well that day off the tee on several short holes and was in love. They were regular flex shafts in them but everything  I play has stiff flex shafts. I proceeded to by one just like it to try but bought a stiff flex. I could not hit it to save my life and ended up giving it away and the guy still uses it today. I ended up getting a used Titleist 910H with a regular flex Diamana Kai'li shaft in just because it was super cheap. It didn't work too well either and it stayed in with my old/spare clubs for years until I pulled it back out a few months ago for another try. I changed a few things in my swing and have hit some great shots with it since. I'm actually thinking about getting a 22 degree to go along with the 19. The thing I changed in my swing is that I set my wrists earlier in my take away and I try to hit up on the ball.

My hybrid is currently the longest standing club in my bag. That said, it’s a bit of a love hate relationship. Some days it’s automatic. Other days it’s quite possible the worst club in my bag. Lately I’ve been hitting my 5 iron significantly better than my hybrid. On equally struck shots, the 5 iron is only 7-8 yards shorter but the dispersion circle is much smaller with the iron. I may get a 4 iron, or 20 degree driving iron…. Or go the other way and find a 7 wood. My 4 wood is mostly a secondary tee shot cub if there is trouble where my driver “should” carry too. So my 4 hybrid and 5 iron are really clubs for laying back on short par 4s, to make up for bad tee shots, or second shots on longer 5s. So it’s a weird spot. Right now the idea of switching it out for something else is winning.

We're going on a Minimalist Adventure who knows were we'll end up:

"Full" bag currently looks like this:

Taylormade BRNR Mini Copper 13.5

Taylormade Sim Max 7w Mitsubishi Diamana F Limited 75S

Callaway Mavrik Pro 7-PW Project X Rifle Tour Flighted 105 6.0

🤣🤣🤣

I actually looked at some other options like the SIM Max/SIM 2 Max 5-Wood, the SIM DHY, or potentially keeping my Srixon Z H85.

But I loved the weight in the head and shaft of the SIM 2 Max Hybrid, it is more upright than my H85, and the face looks more closed. All things that I think should work much better with my swing than the other options. We’ll see though, I definitely reserve the right to give up on Hybrids again! 😉

I hit one and thought this is like an old school 5 wood with some tech, in fact, if I wasn’t so cheap, I would have  grabbed  one as a 5 wood, but ended up with a 19* Adams Tight lies 5 wood (2013) because I saw it at a local golf shop used in excellent condition for $20 ………. It’s the ladies version so I have to swap the shaft out, but no crazy colors on it, just white on bottom instead of blue ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I like that more wood type and iron types are prevalent. It’s good to have options.

Yeah, I was actually going to buy a used 5-Wood yesterday (a TM SLDR), but once I got there it turned out it was Left-handed, Lol!

So I took that as a sign to go to the golf shop and take another look at the Hybrid or 5-Wood options. And I agree, this SIM 2 Max Hybrid has more weight and muscle to it than any Hybrid I’ve looked at, and has a great feel and look to it. We’ll see how it performs, but I’m excited to test it out and smash some balls with it for sure!

I love hybrids, but I just ordered a 4 driving iron from PXG because it was such a good deal. If it works out for me this will be the first time in a long time that I don't have a hybrid in the bag. I already changed my sig, so now it has to work, right? 😜
