Wedges

Similar to yours (see below).

Originally had MD-PM 60°/10 U-grind (convex sole), great for greenside, but had distance control problems on anything longer. The 58°  knocked 60° out of the bag after a half-hour at practice green.

For 54°, now playing smaller flange S-grind; W-grind was hanging up too much in heavier sand more courses are installing.

Blast from the Past...

  • From 2011 to 2015 or so, I played Callaway set 46* PW plus Cleveland CG14 with 50-54-58 mix.
  •  I've tried Vokeys before - got real quality time with new models at two different demo days - but just didn't like the feel. Vokey tops for tech, if you like the feel.

Nothing special here.  620 MB PW 47/6', SM6 52/8' and SM6 58/8'.  Had SM6s since 2016, so they will be replaced, probably with SM8s, but haven't made up my mind.

I am not big on iron, wedge or putter changing; it takes too long to get comfortable.  I did, however, put Tensei AV White AM "S" High Bend wedge shafts (108g) in both SM6s and so far they B sweet.  The shaft improved 52 distance from 100 to 105+ yards carry and 58 easy 85 to 90yds, only it's seldom used for its length.

I am lucky to have Artisan wedges, annoying thing is now I have them I can't see myself going anywhere else.

46, 50, 55, 60 just after they were re-blasted.

Did you request the shape and leading edge? Or is that the way they are? I’m going to schedule a fitting there in August to get the correct grinds, but that shape, size, and leading edge are perfect!

Easy answer is that's what they made for me, I didn't lead them anyway at all. The leading edge is much lower than a vokey, the head shape is that. Mine do have a grind at the front to help with Texas grain! You would have to see my build sheet to see exactly what they did.

I am heading up to them in July to get my dads wedges and get mine re blasted for the second and last time. My dads two have a links ground on them for Scottish golf.

Nice ribbon grind on the back of the sole. Can’t wait till August. Mine will have a few rounds on them before I take them to Ireland with me..

I am moving back to Scotland in 4 weeks so mine will be used for the first time there come August and my dad will get to use his.

Interesting next year as I will order some new ones - right now leaning towards just replacing the 55 and 60 but will see what the next six months bring.

The whole Artisan experience is awesome; worth the money for the wedges.

So far this season I’ve been gaming Cleveland RTX Zipcore in 50-54-58 Mid, but just picked up a new 52* and will test out the PW (46)-52*-58* setup.

For me, my wedge game is the weakest part of my game and isn’t advanced enough for there to be a huge difference between what I could do with just a 52* vs what I can do with a 50* and 54*, so I’d rather carry 13 clubs in my bag and have a lighter weight on my shoulders/back.

Started with Nike SB 56 and 60, but didn't care for the 60. Got Lazrus 52 and 56 and love them.

Because I have issues I ordered a pair of Maltby 52 and 56 with Kuro Kage shafts that match my irons, but the heads are on backorder.

I play north east on mostly bent/rye etc...grass. Am quite happy with my older miura gap/sands. I like the K grind a lot for a 56, y grind gap. I have a C grind 57 as well with a bit more bounce.

For the 60 I just can't kick the PM Grind out of the bag. I like both the older U grind from 2017 and the current. Its just so easy to open up and flop or get some elevation. Its my primary sand club.

The weakness of the PM is full shots which can sometimes balloon but it serves purpose. The 50 and 56 can be flighted down for 50y shots easily so only when I need a forced carry high shot does the PM 60 come out for a 50-80y shot. Rare.

When I go to florida and the bermuda, that's when I wonder if other grinds may be better for how I deliver the club...or I just need to learn the turf, deal with the grain and hit the bloody thing. I find with tight bermuda texas wedge and hybrid are better options from off the green up to 10y 🙂
