Hybrid or Long Iron???

Aaaa ok, yea i figured. I have an old Wilson Staff Blade 1-Iron and love playing with it at the range, but not confident enough to use at the course.

How well does the 3i serve you on course? Do you use it as a driving iron? Can  you hit it off the turf?

 

As for hybrids, part of ball flight is your set-up. With my 4H, I can get a stinger-ish tee shot if I tee the ball down and half top it. It comes off about 10 feet off the ground, carries maybe 160 yards and starts ro-o-o-lling.

 

You might take lesson and see if you can learn to flight down a hybrid. Also, a 3H tends to fly lower for many golfers. You'll just have to try things and see what works.

I say setup with the hybrid one ball back, weight forward, and practice some low bullets.  Or keep the 3 iron and put in a 4 hybrid.

Was against hybrids for a long time but played with a 22⁰ Steelhead XR last weekend to see how it went and now I'm a convert. Bought a Mavrik 4 hybrid (20⁰) which is the same length as the XR. Hit the range on the way home from work and it was love at first strike.

Will play 3w (16⁰) 4hy (20⁰) 5i (24⁰)

I play an 18° 2H 915H turned down to 17° and in the full flat/fade position.  It gives me a trajectory closer to a 2 iron, but is worlds easier to hit and gaps nicely between my 4 iron and 3 wood.  It is my go to club in windy conditions off the tee and is impossible to go left unless hit badly off the toe.
