Short write up on a few Myrtle Courses

Just played 6 rounds with my kids.

Barefoot Norman and Barefoot Love - both were in very good condition.  Typical resort style/feel courses, Love being a bit more challenging IMO.  Barefoot does a great job keeping you informed/organized/on time.   Lunch in the clubhouse was the best one we had for the week - great food, beers, atmosphere, service.  Good pace of play, maybe a hair slow - but OK.

Grande Dunes - We all really enjoyed this course.  Great scenery, holes, fairways were in super condition but greens were still recovering from aeration.   Nice people, was not overly crowded.  Good lunch, not busy.  Fast pace of play.

Grande Dunes Members Course - Yea, this felt like a private course with all of the 'atmosphere' (which is not always a good thing).  Felt like some of the workers were giving us the stink eye (we did not really feel welcomed) - but I can see they need to maintain their 'status'.  Course was very good, greens were superb.  Really fast greens compared to the other courses we played - we all enjoyed them thoroughly.  Fast pace of play.

Legends Moorland (Dye course) - Well, when we got there it reminded us of Vegas or Disney for golfers.  Tons of people buzzing around, confusing to understand where we go, how their system works.  The Dye course = superb!  what a treat to play.  We got lucky and were paired with an older guy who played the course a ton of times - without his knowledge, we would have been making some bad choices.  Once we got out, pace of play was good (not fast - but good), conditions were good overall (fairways, greens) course layout itself was superb...I wish we played it 2x

Legends Heathland - the rails came off at lunchtime and for the 2nd round.  Lunch was like a big cafeteria or convention center with bar food.  It was just a busy, hairy setting, tons of people buzzing around - we did not like it.  We get to the first tee at our tee time and there are 3 groups in front of us...a group in fairway and on the green.  We waited 25 minutes to tee off.  The starter was pissed, it was not his fault though.  We kept going, waiting long times for every shot and hole.  We finished the front 9 in 3 hours 20 minutes!  Decided to say Fock this and we left.  Poor form by the course for overbooking like this.  Other players there just shook their heads and said 'yea it is always like this' - that is just wrong!  In addition, this was poorly run.  We go to driving range and you have to pay for balls, no one explained where to wait, or their system.  Picture this many people and 5 toilet stalls.  Just a crazy BS environment.  Would avoid (except for the Dye course!)

Thanks for a good report!

What procedure or where/how did you book the Grande Dunes Members course??

I am aware it's available for resort play, but few packagers can book it.

Thanks!

I went thru Brian Noblin at https://myrtlebeachgolfpackagers.com/

I have used him every time we booked at Myrtle, great service.  They are one of the few who can book at the Members Course.

Great write up! I just moved to Myrtle Beach last month, but have been vacationing here for years. The Legends group is notorious for booking a ton of rounds, and having slow play. Doesn't help that the courses are pretty challenging. Having said that, their conditions are almost always pristine, the rates are extremely low compared to many others. As a local, I actually joined their membership package, so I pay $30 a month and get free range use, and depending on time of day and course, the most I will pay for a round of golf is $20, and I pay as little as $7. They also are very relaxed with late rounds. As long as you're back by dark, they are fine with you playing. I've played many courses down here that want you back in by X time so they can go home.

I work full time, so i'll likely be playing a lot of after 5pm golf. Knowing I can get on and get as many holes in as I want for $7 is crazy.
