I use water and dish soap to clean my hats. Removes any sweat stains and odor

I do the same but use a little bit of Tide (or another detergent) and then let it hang dry. I have several white hats that are 5-10+ years old and still look brand new after a cleaning.

I just put mine in my LG Front load washer on speed wash (20 mins), cold wash, low spin.  Take them out and air dry.  For reference I typically wear Men's UA Microthread Golf Mesh Cap | Under Armour.  It's 100% poly and I've washed them at least 10 times and when they are done and dry they look brand new and no signs of wear from the washing machine.  The bill of the cap keeps the same curvature and the mesh retains it's shape/structure.

I always at minimum rinse my hat as soon as I get home to remove sweat and salt.  If it's a white hat I'll scrub it with some dawn if any dirt accumulated at the hat band area, but usually as long as I thoroughly rinse them out when I get home they've lasted for several seasons without looking like i mowed the yard in them.

Top rack of the dishwasher on the crystal (gentle) cycle. Then rack dry in my clothes dryer.

I've even tossed structured hats into the washer (front loader, so it's relatively gentle). The key for me to keeping shape is to dry them on a kitchen mixing bowl that is approximately the size of my head, sometimes with a bit of paper towel to fill the void areas, too.

I've been surprised they've generally survived well, even though they mfr says not to do this.

YMMV, of course. I make no claim this will work for you, but if your hat is otherwise trashed, it can't hurt.

Washer.  Hat bill internal pieces have been made from plastic for a long time now and I haven't had an issue with any hats I've put in the washer for years now.

All a waste of time. I have more important things to do the take the time to wash a hat and so do the rest of you! I use the product below and I play in Arizona summer weather. I get about 4 uses out of them before I replace. Yes I know there is that no stain spray but no thank you. I don’t want that chemical coming in contact with my forehead.

It’s called HatSaver.  And you only spray the OUTSIDE of the cap.  Doesn’t touch your forehead.

Good to know but I still don’t see how that would not soak thru possibly?

You spray the outside and let it dry.  Smells almost like wd40. 😀

Never have had the issue you speak of and never have had sweat stains on the outside of the cap.

It's so humid down here on the Gulf that sweating through a hat takes me about 5 minutes.  Rinsing the hat out with plain water after the round helps keep things under control.  Do this before it dries.  For cleaning, nothing beats soaking the hat in a warm water mix of blue Dawn and Oyxclean.  Take a soft brush and scrub before rinsing it out completely.

I've been spraying my UA hats with spray and wash and just running them thru the washing machine.  I've done it several times and no issues.  I let them air dry.

Surprised that no one has mentioned one of those hat washers. I bought one YEARS ago and use it to clean my golf hats as well as my son's baseball caps (which become brutally dirty with sweat and dirt).  I'll usually scrub it with Shout and then throw in the washer.  I like the hat washer because it keeps the structure.

Come out looking new.

One of my hats was in bad shape.  Sweat stains and yellow stains on the white top front of the hat.  I tried washing it in washing machine with some OxyClean pretreat, tried the dishwasher, tried dish detergent pretreat... nothing worked until...I soaked it in salt water overnight.  Then I added laundry detergent and dish detergent and mixed that up and let it soak for hours.  Then I pretreated for 10 minutes with Clorox 2, and washed in clothes washer with a generous amount of laundry detergent plus the specified amount of Clorox 2 on its bottle in the bleach dispenser and filled the beach dispenser with vinegar to the full line.  Washed on hot.  That did the trick.

one thing I've learned from being a bald guy who wears hats all the time.  DO NOT put sunscreen on or around your forehead.  The hat will protect you from the sun so maybe a little sunscreen on the nose and cheeks.

I've found sunscreen to discolor black, blue, grey and white hats no matter how much I wash and scrub.  After finding this out I've mostly bought and worn white hats (cooler in the sun) and they still look new with an occasional wash.  Sunscreen is what made my white and grey hats stain yellow and my black and blue hats stain a lighter shade.
