My apologies. Last time I watched it was 5 from LET, 4 World Rankings, and 3 picks.

Apparently it has changed, and even more due to covid.

Its now 2 LET, 4 World ranking, 6 picks.

No need for apologies. I think they should do 4-4-4, give a few more gals from the LET a chance.

Congrats JYK.

I can't believe she made her last putt with the pin in considering how much the flag was fluttering.

OK...who was the tall blonde frizzy haired gal helping JYK to celebrate on the 18th green?

She made on short putt on 16 (I think) and the flag shadow was moving all over her hands, as she hit the putt.  Whatever works I guess.

They updated https://stats.lpga.com/stats/5/seasons/2021 to include VOA Classic promptly, after the tournament was completed.

However, there aren't new information on proximity nor stroke gain data.

Chicken or egg I guess.

There are no "stars to keep" right now. However, you can't develop stars that Europeans can identify with if they play 95% of their golf outside of Europe.

I recognize the Korean players as stars even though they play outside of Korea. I assume the vast majority of Korean fans believe the same. The American stars are no less stars because they play 1/3rd of their tournaments outside the U.S.

Maybe because

1. Korea is a country vs Europe, easier to identify with countrymen/women. It might be hard for a Spanish club member to really get behind Van Damme's career outside of Solheim Cup and tournaments leading to it. Most of the Korean players gained popularity locally before going LPGA.

Ex. Bianca is not really doing anything on the LPGA but here in the Philippine golf circles you would think she's only a notch below Yuka, who even before the US Open had won $200-300,000? on the Japan Tour in a shortened season.

2. The Koreans ARE stars that's why people remember them. Major winners, top 10 in the world, dominant. The Euros haven't had a star in a while. I can only remember 1 major winner in the past 4 years.

3. Americans will always have airtime and recognizance. Wie, Lexi, Paula, Gulbis, etc. It pays the bills.

Even though I don't understand Korean but watching Ko's channel made me realise she is humble and down to earth.

It seems like she plays golf with junior golfers and young pros on a regular basis.

Must be an awesome experience to play with a world No. 1 player.

Quite a few of them are really nice, humble/down to earth...

InGee Chun is definitely the first one that comes into my mind - for various reasons, both experienced personally/through other golfers she plays with and on what media has stated...

JYK is the same though I've never had any encounters with her in person, no thanks to Covid...

SYR's humbleness/class has been well documented...

InBee is the one that continues to be a mystery, but she is Inbee -- so an aura/mystique is necessary to keep her Queen Bee image haha (though I'm sure she's down to earth too).

there's more but I think people get the drift... ☺︎

How quickly Pernilla (2018) and Georgia (2018) are forgotten. Anna won in 2017.

I see Inbee on Na Yeon Choi's channel.

Inbee is definitely respected and revered. She seems like she has a sense of humour.

I never really know Inbee and the ones that I know who managed to be "up close" to her said she didn't say much (now as to whether it was bec it was "game on" or they were intimidated by Inbee was, of course, left unsaid lol).   Either way, let's see if I get the chance to at least have my son seek her autograph in the CP Open in 2022 haha...

This is a fun video with Jeongeun Lee, Mi Hyang Lee and Inbee Park.

Did they really write Jeongeun Lee5 at the beginning? Lol.

Today i learnt... "For scoring purposes, she is called Jeongeun Lee5 to differentiate herself from other Korean LPGA golfers with that name, including the one who referred to as Jeongeun Lee6."

There were another Jeongeun Lee that played in the VOA this week and finished 31st. No number in her name. Is this the original Jeongeun Lee in women's professional golf?

@grm24 My guess = that's "Lee5" (but i think she only uses the "Lee5" name in KLPGA).

This Link = gives details on the other "Jeong-Eun Lee"s
https://www.golfdigest.com/story/the-six-jeongeun-lees-have-the-same-name-but-identities-all-their-own (i.e. "Lee5" = not the 'original Jeong-Eun Lee', she's the 5th! 🙂 )

Thanks for reminding me of this article. I do recall this article from the past does explain the first and subsequent Jeongeun Lee's. I recall that at some point over the weekend the telecast mentioned that JL6 has not met all of the others named Jeongeun Lee.

Same here, I thought it was just a "typo"... I've always known #s "1" and 6 as they're always in the LPGA standings (esp 6 as she won the US Open in " dramatic" fashion - eg endearing ending/speech)...

Didn't know / see 2,3,4,5 ever hence I thought: " hmmm... typo? Or is she the real deal lol eg is #5 the real deal that I see in the LPGA lol" 😛

"Lee5" finished better than "Lee6" at the KPMG women's PGA a few weeks ago

image.png.6d51be2f7f8ac4836903d49e1404162c.png

The original “Lee1” was a contemporary of Seri Pak, according to that 2019 GolfDigest article:

The first Jeongeun Lee (above) is 43 years old, retired, and busy raising has an 8-year-old son and a 5-year-old daughter, though still takes time to teach the game to people close to her. She’s one year older than Se Ri Pak, who in 1998 won the U.S. Women as a rookie and sparked a generation of young girls in her country to play.

Actually proves my point, they aren't stars. They won and haven't really done anything else.

How will the Euro side of the ladies get a fan following for the team when there are no stars to identify with?

I have no answer but at least with this new qualification process they are trying something.

So Europeans can't identify with Rory because he plays most of his golf in the States?

I mentioned how the men's game is different now than when they forced players to play x number of events in Europe. The men's game is now full of stars that fans can identify with.

Just like I mentioned how the Koreans are stars because they are top10 in the world.

The highest ranked European is 23 in the world, that is for the entire continent. There are no European stars in women's golf.
