Mini drivers the next hot trend???

I love mini-drivers but not as a driver replacement. I like them as a second option off the tee.

My 425 LST 3-wood is a rocket, so I'm happy with that at the moment, but I really liked the Ping Rapture, the TaylorMade Original One (but not the SLDR Mini) and will definitely be testing the TaylorMade 300 that is rolling out soon.

Yep.  If you're around long enough, what "good" goes around, comes around.  😛

I don't think mini-driver will grab hold though, except maybe on Golfwrx.  Average Joe golfer has trouble hitting a forgiving 460cc, straight... he's not about to change.

I think this was the next hot trend 10-12 years ago. I'm not really a fan as it would seem a better option would just be buy a 3 wood and adjust it to 12-13 degrees

Or if you want a bigger head, just buy a 44.5 inch driver like the RadSpeed.

It's a very small niche of people that will want this

I still have my old 11° Lynx Black Cat driver I gamed in high school. I'll throw it in the bag for funsies every so often and can still make great contact with it ... but it doesn't go much farther than my TSi3 3W and probably can't get it off the deck so no reason for it to live there.

Always did absolutely love how it sets up though.

I sense that bubble-shafted golf clubs will be the next hot thing. Haven't seen any since the late 1990s.

Those of you that have the Burner bubbles, hand onto them. You can be the first in your neighborhood to swing bubbles (again).

TM and Callaway are determined to make this a "trend" every five years. The first couple times they sold a bunch of them, not so much the last time. Who knows maybe they'll make some more money this time around.

NEVER understood this gimmick. If you can’t hit a 460cc clubhead, why would a high hdcp player think something smaller would be easier. Just offer a shorter option driver with more loft. Silly how we are as golfers. If someone tries to sell you a 13* driver with a shorter shaft you won’t buy it. But if it’s a “mini” driver with 13* and shorter shaft you buy it??? Proof how gullible we are as golfers. When Nike made the “Sweet 16” driver I would literally show them the data of how much better, further, and straighter they hit it than a 10* driver, but they wouldn’t buy it. Their response, it goes too high…. 🤦‍♂️

The OEMs had their chance to capitalize on the Mini Driver craze a few years ago and it didn't work out as planned.  Even if the fad did come back it's too soon.  Square Drivers has a better chance of making a comeback though.

I have to agree with this here. Normally in my bag I have a 13.5* three wood (set at 12.75*) that’s my second tee club option. At home I also have a TS2 10.5* driver (set at 11.25* and only 42 1/2”) that sees bag time at some of my local courses.

I've considered it as a 2 wood like Phil. Maybe for tight tees, but mostly long and/or low off the deck.

As a stroke survivor who was in the rehab hospital for full month learning to walk, I am quite pleased to have a 75 mph swing speed with my driver.

Not enough for a 3W which frees up a spot.  And the gap compression from the slow speed frees up a few more.

My drivers is a ladies 2004 13 degree Big Bertha cut down to 41.75" and swing weighted to C4.  I'd rather have the large 360 cc head than a mini driver that would cost a lot more.  I've already taken plenty of divots with it. 🙄

I saw a great deal on a fully adjustable Epic Flash driver and couldn't pass it up, so that would be my 2nd driver once I get it dialed in distance. 😀

Hope you continue back to full strength soon.

Correct. If you arent shaping the ball like a pro, this is stupid. Very few people on golfwrx should be playing one.

Hang in there and good luck as you continue your recovery.

My father in law suffered a stroke and it was a long road for him as well.

I wish you the best.

Just a wild theory folks but 2 putters could be the next big thing - one for short putts using a mechanical style stroke (like armlock), one for longer putts where feel is more important so a less mechanical stroke may be better.

30 or whatever putts in a round means it is the most used club in the bag and the most important, so anything that you can do to improve performance in this facet of your game will have the most impact.

The OEM's should love it, what with the price of putters.

Maybe there is a bit of nostalgia, but I remember being a much better driver of the ball with the last generation of steel headed drivers and the first few of the Titanium’s.

Hitting up does not seem to suit my game, I would rather loose 10 yards and be in the fairway more often. And if they are easier to hit a 5-10 yard draw with…

Mini drivers is and always will be a niche product.

The majority of mid to high handicappers have no business in gaming one, not as a 3 wood and definitely not as a driver replacement
