Sydney and Brisbane Suggestions?

Recommended Posts

First, I went to the Australia section to find no posts since 2020....

So, we took our ship out of the charter program this season to do some traveling and let our crew bring families and friends on trips as a thank you for all they endured during Covid.   Most hadn't done any trans pacific trips from the U.S. so they decided the main stops would be Hawaii, Australia, New Zeeland,  and TBD from there.

We are flying over to meet them when they hit Brisbane and hang for a  few legs of the trip.

Looking for recommendations in Brisbane and Sydney for good courses for casual rounds for all.

And yes, there are a few who have never crossed the equator - So for you military out there - they will be holding a Shellback day as they cross the equator.😃

Only played New South Wales when I was on my honeymoon. The course is spectacular. I’m not sure what your definition of a “casual round” is though. The course has some narrow tee shots and the wind typically blows pretty strong out there. If you’re a golf and architecture but it’s great, if youre only playing a couple rounds a year it’s probably not the right course for the difficulty and price.

As noted above, most private courses in Australia welcome visitors - generally on receipt of a phone call or letter from your club.

The best courses in Sydney that I think you will be able to access are NSW and The Lakes, both of which have hosted the Australian Open.

For more casual rounds, St Michael's is next to NSW and is open to social visitors.  The Coast is next to St Michael's and is a step down, but very casual and on the coastline.  Long Reef has outstanding views and is a municipal course.  Mona Vale is a bit further North of Long Reef and is also well rated.

If you want to see kangaroos on a golf course in Sydney, you will need to travel a bit further to Riverside Oaks.

Enjoy your trip!

Kangaroos were all over when I played St Andrews Beach in Melbourne! Wouldn't play that track again though as the privates are so receptive and that much better. Victoria National was a great experience- almost fell over when I asked the member I was with what costs were to join. If you could make a 3 week trip a year it would almost be worth it living in the States. Pros at Kingston Heath and Royal Melbourne were awesome to work with- they just couldn't get me out. Had no idea I was trying to play on Anzac Day. Finishing birdie birdie at Victoria National and then the footy at Melbourne Cricket made a pretty solid day.

Did you play at The National GC or Victoria GC ? The National has 3 courses near St Andrews Beach but Victoria is next to RM and closer to the city.

Victoria. It was awesome. RM had a members only tournament on that day- otherwise they would have let me out and I would have gladly saddled up. Around the putting green they had two flags up. The Aussie and the US flag. I asked the member why they had the US flag up he said "For you mate. We put up the flag of the guests home country." Cool touch. So many good courses there. I'd move to Melbourne in a heartbeat.

Sorry, we are in lockdown. No golf allowed.

The lakes is great.  If you guys can drive a bit drive up to pacific dunes.  Mount Broughton is a good track too outside the city.

much further south but there’s a great beach down there, I’d you drive down to wolllongong go play the links at shell cove.   That’s where I was a member when I lived in Sydney

this was recently, correct? (don't want to upset a moderator; just casually interested in australia at the moment)

Yes, about half the country is in lockdown. NSW is worst affected as far as cases. Victoria still has about 5 days to go in our lockdown. I mean Vic had about 13 cases last week, surely that's good enough reason to destroy the economy. Admittedly NSW has 124 new cases which is huge I know.

At least in NSW we are still able to play golf while in lockdown!  As long as the course is within 10km of your home, you can play in groups of 2.  There is huge demand on timesheets, but courses seem to be managing the demand by scheduling 9 hole comps, restricting the number of competition rounds per week, and guaranteeing a timeslot every second week (if you miss out on a game for a scheduled day and are on the waitlist, you are automatically entered into the timesheet for that day on the following week, before the timesheet opens to others).  Here's hoping the numbers decrease soon and lockdown ends.

    • APPLY NOW: L.A.B. Golf MEZZ.1 Putter (Early Access) Member Testing! 10 Testers Needed!
L.A.B. Golf is choosing ten GolfWRX members to receive their MEZZ.1 putter early and put their brand new product to the test before reporting back to the community about what they see. The selected testers will be one of the first to experience the MEZZ.1 from L.A.B. GOLF, their newest Lie Angle Balanced design, ahead of it's January 2022 launch!

About The L.A.B. Golf Mezz.1 Putter
MEZZ.1 is our new mid-mallet putter that’s fully CNC machined from a billet of 6061 aircraft aluminum (body) and 303 stainless steel (midsection) to create our best-feeling — and we think best looking — putter to date. It includes 10 weights (eight on the bottom, two on the sides) that allow us to individually build each putter to a golfer’s exact specifications.

      How To Apply
In a post below, answer the following questions.

      1. City, State?
      2. Handicap?
      3. What is your current putter?
      4. Have you ever used a L.A.B. Golf putter?
      5. Why do you want to review the MEAZZ.1 putter?
      6. Do you agree to participate in an ongoing testing thread, posting reviews and photos?

That's it! @labgolf and GolfWRX will choose the testers in about 2 weeks! This testing event is for good-standing members in the USA only!
