Poker chip ball markers are lame so I got creative…

Recommended Posts

Most ball markers that pro shops sell are really bland and unoriginal. Plastic poker chips, small round metal markers, and the really original metal poker chips.

I like to travel and collect little keepsakes to remind me of the experience. Most places don’t sell ball makers but many do sell kitchen magnets, collectible pins, and some even have the pressed penny machines.  They all make excellent and creative markers.

The NASA and Buc-Ees Beaver are magnets. The Mickey UCF, SPAM, and Guam were pins that I just broke the pin off and quickly filed down the rough edge.

Those are definitely much better than poker chips.

I use a Chucky Cheese token that I got from a birthday party I took my daughter to about seven years ago.

It constantly reminds me of the great relief I feel from never having to set foot in a Chucky Cheese again.

That’s what I’m talking about. Love it!

Nice, the NASA one is sweet, I make my own, and the roundel was at one time attached to a money clip (lame) so I popped it off and ground the backside flush.

Away from another player's line anything is fine. Near another player's line the small plastic markers will not interrupt the roll of a ball.

Flat or not, if it's close to my line, I'm asking for it to be moved.

Glad to see I'm not the only one using pins and various other things as markers. Like @596mentioned, I collect the poker chips and have a couple that stay in the bag for sentimental reasons, but on the course I use pins or other small markers. I usually keep the tang attached so I can stick it into the ground and know it won't move on me.

You know, if they still had legit video games I'd gladly ignore the creepy animatronics and substandard pizza. But, the whole stick a token in a machine, watch the lights flash, and get a few tickets thing is just asinine.

One of my greatest triumphs as a father was convincing my daughter that the big payoff was the little receipt you get when you shove your tickets into the shredder machine. We completely bypassed the prize counter and made it home without any plastic junk.

The receipt is still hanging on my fridge today.

Nah, I get it. I defend it more out of nostalgia than anything else. If I had kids, I'd probably do my best to avoid it at all hazards as well lol. My buddy and his wife took their kid there the other day and racked up a total cost of $94, I nearly fainted.

I considered that but I know I'd end up losing the pin back and stabbing myself.

Pretty sure what I have for ball markers are lame ... to someone: coins with dates of family members, poker chips (my designs of course), rabies tags, laminated paper circle (note: I don't know), and such other whatnot; many a far cry from what I was taught: a dime.

Further taught: if one's ball was not in another's line, no need to mark (other than cleaning the ball, if needed) - let the ball lie unattended. Play was faster then, but more fashionable now.

Got matching poker chips (my designs of course) to match my bags. Much easier to see and pick up. There's that. But, hey, lest I appear above it all, I still don't have iron covers.

Me too. My main marker is a Morgan silver dollar from 1921, but I've also used a 5-franc coin from Switzerland.

Both have the advantage of being huge, so I can see them even if I'm looking at a long putt from the other side of the hole.
