My dad grew up in Berthoud. My uncle used to contract farm just east of town before he passed away about 5 years ago. We used to fish at town lake and hunt deer up near Carter Lake.

Amazing how much that area has changed. I can't even believe this golf course exists.

Colorado, and certainly Northern Colorado, has experienced a building boom in the past 10-15 years, actually for the past 2 to 3 decades but more condensed in the past decade.  I have driven 287 right past Heron Lakes several thousand times over the past 28 years (Longmont to Fort Collins).  I never get tired of the stretch where Heron Lakes is located because the views west are terrific.  One thing for certain is that we need a couple/three more public courses up in the Fort Collins/Loveland area.

Yeah man, I'm a CSU and UNC alum, and I was always astounded by the lack of municipal courses in the area, particularly Ft. Collins. Once they built Boomerang Links on the west side of Greeley, that's where I played the majority of my golf.

I love Colorado and the northern Front Range in particular, but I must admit that I'm glad I don't live there anymore. I left in 2006 and don't have much desire to return.

I live across Horstooth Road from the first tee at Collindale Golf Course.  My drive way is a 7 iron from the practice pitching green at Collindale, across the street I live on and then across Horsetooth Road.  I know this because I have hit the shot before with a slight draw from a slightly downhill lie.  It is a hazardous shot because a thinned shot might just go through a car window passing on a busy Horsetooth Road.  😄

Yeah man, they love putting busy streets next to golf courses in Colorado for some reason. I grew up avoiding the slice into traffic on 15, 16, and 17 at Wellshire, and the duck hook into Colorado Blvd. at City Park, as well as at Park Hill on 13(?) if I remember correctly.

Most of my golf in Ft. Collins was played at City Park 9, believe it or not. I played Collindale a handful of times and could just never learn to like that course. But, I did really enjoy my time in Ft. Collins. I was there from '92-'96. I lived near campus - mainly along Remington between Elizabeth and Mulberry. Worked at Canino's for many years while in school. I wonder if that place is still around. The owner, Clyde, was quite a character.

You have to be straight at Collindale.  I used to play Ute Creek in Longmont and Saddleback in Firestone where a not so straight drive doesn’t hurt you too much for the most part.  I move back to FoCo in 2012 and relearned how to drive the ball straight.  Collindale is a good test and some of the best greens in the state.

Interesting. Yes, at that time in my golfing career, I was anything but straight.

Next time I get out to visit my Mom, I'll have to bring the clubs and give it another shot.

When you come back out try to remember to let me know.  We’ll go out and play Collindale.  👍🏼

I played this course back in June and it is fantastic. If anyone is in the Denver area or here to visit I highly recommend this course. The views are spectacular the facility is amazing and the course is fun. The only caution I will give is that some of the bunkers are so deep you will feel like the guy in the Phil Mickelson workday commercial. They are sod walled and depending on the lie you may have to go backwards to get out. Up until just recently it had the longest par five in the country at 773 yards. The only one that is longer is the 17th hole at Moonlight Basin (777)  in Montana where Phil and Tom played Bryson and Arron in the match.

These new irons look phenominal, funny timing that I just bought the old T series irons, but at this rate between a late summer/fall release, and then backorders well into the Christmas range I'll have half a year playing my irons before I could get my hands on the new ones.

I'll probably find myself buying this T series release in a year and a half right before they release the next line🤣
