Is nobody else going to point out that if that is indeed a hybrid, there are Ventus Red Hybrid shafts in the pipeline?

No. Fujikura Golf posted here in another thread regarding Phil's shaft. It's just an over tipped wood shaft. No new Ventus RED HB shaft forthcoming.

LAAAAAME! although kudos to Fujikura for preventing the spread of misinformation.

Does this mean we're straight up getting Apex fairways? has this even crossed anyone's mind as a possibility? They literally said that it's a Ventus Wood shaft, and never said anything about it being heavily tip trimmed to be put in a hybrid.

The Ventus Black/Blue HB shafts are 42 inches. Ventus wood shafts are 46 inches. To get the Ventus Red wood shaft to an acceptable length for a hybrid the butt or the tip need to be trimmed quite a bit to get it to an acceptable playing length. From an article I came across tonight this new HB is supposed to be a 4 hybrid making it needing to be tipped further. Numerous articles have this being a new hybrid club and not a fairway wood.

idk, that looks a bit too big to be a hybrid.

I'd like to try and throw out a few ideas that I don't think are true.

1: It's a bigger, more "game improvement" Apex DCB? Hybrid to add to their current lineup of 2

The idea of Phil using this bigger, more game improvement Apex hybrid as a tour only model is laughable (more on this later)

2: They're coming out with an entire new line of clubs half a year into the life of the Epic Max/Speed that includes a chunky hybrid

This is equally unlikely, as Callaway's product cycle has been ridiculously easy to follow in the short time I've been around.

"but ShAMbotay, there aren't any Epic Speed/Max hybrids or irons, and the 2020 Mavriks are not only the "current" flagship model, but are showing signs of being phased out"

I don't know about you, man, but that club looks like it says "APEX" to me.

3: Fujikura is just lying and it actually is a HB shaft

Nah. That would have serious backlash now that they've gone out of their way to debunk that rumor.

4: This is the current Apex model

Totally disagree, I went and checked the USGA conforming list, Callaway's website, and a few other places where I can find some great pics, and it's not a match.

*disclaimer: I'm blind as a bat, so my word here probably doesn't mean much

My guess is that it's a straight up Apex fairway wood, or it's something along the lines of an "Apex Super Hybrid", which, knowing Callaway, is not out of the cards.

It's a larger more rounded shape and seems to have a shallower face without the high toe iron like profile from all the videos and pictures I've seen. It seems to be low and forward CG.

It seems kind of X Hot proish with modern tech.

Epic Flash may even be a better comparison for shape and lack of offset just EF seemed to have a slightly deeper face.

The Mavrik Pro started to trend back more towards the old definition of a "pro" hybrid ie X Hot range vs the "pro" models in later wood series and the apex range.

Id honestly expect this to be the some new replacement to the super hybrid and clearly a radically redesigned and rebranded club at that

But with this being Callaway this may just be a tour only product that eventually gets limited availability direct from Callaway like some of the other tour specials

Edit: if I'm correct the last time PM bagged a hybrid it was Memphis in 2017 when he randomly put the 2009 PM Prototype hybrid back in.

That club was the inspiration for X Hot Pro.

It's probably that shape and that's probably why he's put it in the bag after seeing Akshay using it

Slightly different image, but I think it says APEX on the bottom of it.

I play the Epic Flash 19 degree hybrid, and it is a monster, the only reason I can see that it didn't sell better was it was $300 new, pretty pricey for a hybrid (I got it used, like new for $170).

I don't know what it is about it, but it is almost as long as my 14 degree 3 wood, can't imagine what somebody like Phil could do with it or the technology inside it.  Maybe it is just low spin while still decently high launch.  I use it more off the tee than anything else....

It would seem that this "hybrid" is replacing the UT iron at 20.5 degrees seeing he had his 4 wood in the bag yesterday as well.

That's his WITB from the PGA.  So he'd pull the longer two utilities for ths club.

Looks like the standard apex to me.. But I could be wrong. I think the "prototype" is just the shaft head combo..

Huh?

This is the description of Phil's new hybrid under his WITB on the Callaway site.  There is also a video on there where they walk through his current bag, with the hybrid blurred.

There are other images elsewhere on the internet that show it's clearly not a standard apex
