Anyone using an ipad/E6? I'm using an ipad air 2, which is NOT what E6 recommends.  It does work, but it's pretty bad graphics and choppy movements, using cord and tried casting, both pretty bad.  Wondering if anyone is using the recommended IPAD version from the E6 website if all looks well and what the experience is like.  Can't stand switching to HTH due to the fact it won't run in landscape mode.

I am using an Ipad Pro 12.9 (3rd gen) and I have no problems at all. Graphics are good and movements are smooth using E6 app.

Just another quick update, after another range session I'm seeing that club path appears to be pretty consistent and accurate. I actually put some more effort into aligning the R10 with an alignment stick this time and then measured some divot angles as a sanity check and everything looks really good, I suspect it's actually outperforming the +/- 1 degree rating but I don't really have enough data to be confident in that. This is all on an open grass range with nobody else around so others may have a different experience.

AoA seems a bit less consistent but I don't know how much of that variation is me vs the R10 itself (or possibly related to flying divots). It does seem to be good enough at least to tell me when I'm starting to get a bit "choppy" with my irons.

As far as absolute spin numbers go, I don't find most of the numbers particularly believable. As an example, I hit a bunch of 9 irons during this session and looking through the data, the spin numbers range from 1/2 to as low as 1/3 of what I know my spin rate to be from both GCHawk and aboutGolf simulator data. Surprisingly, since FW3.60 I actually find driver spin numbers to be the most believable although still slightly high. Spin axis though seems reasonable, at least as far as predicting shot shape where I only very rarely see an incorrect read that isn't the result of a massively off-center hit.

I am finding fewer missed chips on 3.6. Played 18 on Home Tee Hero and had one shot where it underestimated the sidespin (diminished my slice), a couple 4h shots I looked a bit short, and it's not picking up gear effect so a few drives were slightly short. But it's working extremely well.

I initially thought it was shorting my game ball hitting into the net, so I put it up against a Trackman and it's pretty on point. I see my 7i 150+ when golfing but ~12 yards short on simulator.

Spin at the range has been weird for me too. I don't know if it's range balls and mats but I get really low spin on irons and wedges outdoors at the range (like 4000 spin on wedges) and then I come home and hit into my net (still off a mat but at least with a quality ball) and the spin is way better.

Range balls (the hard one-piece variant will spin less than a premium ball, I can believe spin is 4800rpm with a hard range ball compared to 8000rpm with a premium ball).

I will try to contribute to this thread, as I feel there is unchallenged ambiguity -  has anyone actually compared the Garmin R10 against its price competitors - The Swing caddy SC300i, Flightscope Mevo, and the Rapsodo , in terms of accuracy related to carry distance, spin, launch angle, clubhead speed ?

My ageing little SC100 will accurately report the correct clubhead speed and carry distance, I expect a more recent device such as the little mevo and the R10 to report these figures accurately plus spin (in my opinion, +/- 10 yards up to 200 yards is acceptable, as these devices are useful for tracking iron ball stats, trackman is for driver figures).

Outdoors I have found it very comparable to a FlightScope Range unit except something is currently wrong with club speed. Ball speed, launch angle and direction are all great matches. Carry is within the 10% you want. Indoors or into a net I think this holds true for irons. Driver may be 10-15 yards short in these circumstances. An update was supposed to improve this and some people did report improvements. Mine are more or less still similar but it's in an acceptable spot by my standards. Posted this before but here's the FlightScope Range vs. R10 data outdoors. You can see the club speed issue and backspin too low with wedges but outside club speed and spin everything else is very good.

This would be amazing. Additionally, Garmin now syncs your range sessions on the app (including video) across multiple devices so it is being stored in the cloud somehow. Just no way to download or view it.

You can get the export utility from here https://github.com/earl553/garminr10dataconverter

With a nice writeup on how to use. I have not used it yet but will shortly

Awesome! I did not realize there was a request export on the Garmin site. I'm quite familiar with Python and Pandas so thank you for this!

The roll out and elevation change makes driver distance one of those items that almost nobody knows their actual carry distance.  9 times out of 10 you are hitting from an elevated tee box, onto a down slope fairway, with low spin, onto a firm fairway.  If I go all out I can get 275 carry @160mph on the garmin with the latest firmware which *feels* about right.  I find my drives somewhere between 260 and 340 yards on a relatively flat course depending on strike, shape/spin, wind, conditions, and how many cart path hops I get.

I think the roll factor is pretty conservative for driver. I'm in the same boat as you where my carry feels mostly right but total yardage can be a bit short. I notice my drives have about 15-20 yards of roll and I think a lot of mine roll out more than that. On the course I do measure some out to 270-280 and on the R10 they're carrying the 250-260 or so they should but then the roll is just leaving them a little shorter when playing Home Tee Hero.

Should I get an R10?     (95% indoor use)

Hello all.  I have trying to follow the discussion in the forum but i'm not sure about how the unit will perform indoors with the new software updates.

So, my question is, given the current status of the software, would you recommend for indoor use.  And, what are the top 1-3 limitations i should expect.

I would like to use it for general range practise (accuracy), wedge distances (25-85 yards), Home Town Hero.

My aplogies if this has been asked before (I did search but didnt find a recent answer).

Many thanks for your feedback!

I'm new to Python. How do you switch over to the console and execute the script. I get this message when I try to run it from Anaconda. Not sure if I'm doing it right

Unfortunately, I'm not an Anaconda user myself 😉 so bear with me that I might not be able to fully explain the error you are seeing. However, what seems weird to me is the error message indicating, that the Python tries to parse some sort of doctype tag which shouldn't be the case.

Are you sure that you correctly saved the script? One way would be to go into the source code file in Github (https://github.com/earl553/garminr10dataconverter/blob/main/r10_data_converter.py) and then copy&paste the source code into a new plaintext file (e.g., in Notepad or Editor), and store it as a python file.

In addition, please check that you are in the correct folder where the json files extracted from the data request package are located.

For me, the file structure looks somewhat like the following:

I got to get behind one of these recently and was impressed.  My irons were all going about as I expected, spin seemed low but I cant know that as I dont have trackman or quad data, and I wouldnt put it past my GI irons to not spin.  Driver was horrendous but tbh I think i just hit my driver like crap.  But I did notice on hard swings(115+) it would never register a swing. We were having some connection issues so that may be it.

Thanks for this. I'll give it a shot. Do you mind posting a screenshot of what you're typing to execute the the file?

Briefly looking at the converted data and it looks good. Issues I'm have is it's not showing in yards and mph (at least for me), I don't see backspin, sidespin, or face to path information. I like the extra information it gives as well such as back/down swing time, swing tempo.

Perhaps this has already been asked/answered, but I haven't found it.

Can the R10 support multiple users?  Say a buddy and I want to play a simulated round, is that possible?  Furthermore, even in range mode, can we both hit and track the data separately?

I believe Home Town Hero you can add people (haven't done it yet), however for the range it doesn't look like you can track separately.

Yes. I play with my 6 year old. He digs it a lot.

yes, metrics are in m/s for speeds and meters for distances. Shouldn’t be an issue to adapt it to your preferred metrics though. My aim for the converter script was to provide untouched raw data from Garmin (I.e., there are fields like client key still in the file which shouldn’t be relevant for an individual‘s analysis) as some people might prefer km/h instead of mph and vice versa.

but yes I agree: the „hidden“ data is a nice bonus. Not sure why Garmin isn’t displaying those yet.
