Is there anyone using and loving the video option, I haven't been able to capture the video. any tips?

Using yes. Loving no. I'm on Android and to capture video first tap the camera icon.1710588880_Screenshot_20211005-075322_GarminGolf2.jpg.a13becd31c2caf345883bdd33f1f31dd.jpg

Then click the slider to turn on video capture.1913031032_Screenshot_20211005-075333_GarminGolf2.jpg.770bbcd74e2f3123379c2f0838c8fc36.jpg

I would prefer if it would show me the video replay after every swing and would also like a slo mo mode.

If you can get your hands on a PRGR or something to compare actually in your garage to, that might be best. It could be set up or interference but as others have pointed out, ball speed on this unit is really good even indoors. I had driver carries of 220 when I started and I'm up to 260-270 now as I've built confidence swinging indoors. There are others experiencing interference or other issues but the subconscious can be really powerful even when you're trying to really give it.

Honestly don't know why you keep telling him that. He is reporting a ball speed of 75mph with an 8 iron indoors. My Grandma putts with more ball speed than that. It is NOT indoor swing syndrome.

It is indoor radar interference syndrome.

Hey, Rambo50 - you mentioned that you had yard tools hanging on the wall - are they behind your net?

I had an aluminum framing square and some hand saws hanging on the wall behind my net which I believe were interfering with the reads. Once I took them down I started seeing my real (arccos) carry numbers on the device. My theory is a big, flat metal panel is doing weird stuff to the doppler radar.

Has anyone used the r10 at a driving range with stalls that have the metal mesh dividers to prevent people from kneecapping each other with shanks.  Whenever i hit in stall like that i feel the left/right spins are all over the place.  I might hit a shot that i can see is 5 or 10 yards right, but the r10 shows 40 yards right.

Still new to the device but had another good session. I followed the tip to check alignment by hitting straight wedge shots and found it made a big difference.

Initially I didn't bother but the unit showed consistent pushes which I knew were straight. Took out a PW and hit 3/4 straight punch shots and then tilted the r10 slightly to the right (so it was a tiny bit open to the target line) and it showed the correct ball flight for the next few punch shots.

From there it felt like it got all the shot shape and direction right. Just my 2 cents ymmv

Net in a garage with lots of metal objects everywhere

I've been testing with my garage door open and closed - the net sits directly infront of the metal roller door. I started with it up as I was sure it would cause interference. But the last session I did was with it down and the carry distance, ss and shape all seemed ok.

I had about 2m to the hitting area then another 3m to the impact sheet of the spornia, then maybe 0.5m to the roller door.

Hit driver for first time and it picked it up well I thought. I definitely have a bit of indoor swing syndrome so my speeds were a bit down but ss of 103 and carry of 225m (245 yards) felt about right.

Need to do more testing though. I'm going to the range this evening and ît has metal dividers (not solid sheets but frames). Will report back

I do have tools...etc behind the net.

Today I tried covering up the tools with a dark blue blanket and I still saw low numbers. I then covered up the concrete floor with blankets to reduce radar bounce and I saw my numbers increase by about 20 yards on average. I think I may be on to something. This weekend I'm going to install a turf path from the R10 to the net.

Maybe a better job of covering up the backdrop and installing the turf will get me closer to my averages.

Does anyone know what the radar path is for the unit? I feel like I might have to make a curtain tunnel for this thing haha!

Ok had a good hit at the range

1. I prefer using it at home. Hehe too many strange looks and it felt a little distracting looking at it when I can see the exact ball flight etc.

2. Driver results might be affected by the stall dividers. Mainly because I hit off the mechanical tee and that is very close to the side of the stall. So in essence to have it sit directly behind the ball, the r10 had like the right side of its ”view" obstructed.

Some driver shots were ok, but others were variable. Like a slight fade instead of a slight draw. Couple of misreads saying my swing speed was 146mph but I only hit it 230 yards 🤣 others felt a little short but to be fair it was hard to judge as I was hitting into the wind but elevated (2nd storey of the driving range and the range itself sits on a small hill) and also using crappy range balls.

3. Wedges and mid irons were mostly good and felt reasonably close - I hit those from the centre of the stall unlike driver. Maybe a few slightly short but within reason, and also some maybe taken as more offline than actual. Eg 20m offline vs closer to 10m

4. Anyone else get this annoying thing where you go into the app's driving range and the menu tab appears on the bottom of the screen and covers all the options? Like club selection etc? And you can't get rid of it without restarting the app?

5. All in all I'm happy with how it's performing so far. Need to test it heaps more but it seems a little better than the sc 200 when hitting indoors in my garage.

Yeah that looks really good...no forced IOS, and great pricing on gspro. How do we push it with Garmin? I joined the groups

People are pushing for it on Garmin's forum but I really don't think it will come officially from Garmin. This type of thing undercuts some of the incentive to buy HTH or e6. The developers have stated GS Pro has an open API so I think the best hope is someone reverse engineers how the R10 sends the data to the phone and writes a bridge to get the data required to GS Pro.

Different question, is there a maximum ballspeed or clubspeed for the R10?

Was trying some speed training today but got stuck at 107 clubspeed.

Did anyone experience the same?

107???

And you call yourself a WRXer!!!

Mine is around 90.

107 is with a driver btw!

Following the Bryson method my baseline was 104mph clubspeed with a driver. So I had to push to 114mph but I just couldn't get it past 107 even after some swings felt faster. So I thought maybe it won't register faster...

Alignment for Approach R10

Components

Pinty Compact Tactical Laser $14.99 on Amazon

Tovot M8 22mm furniture levelers with T-nuts $6.99 on Amazon 12 of them in a package.

Bubble Spirit Level Bullseye $7.88 on Amazon 6 of them in a package.

The board is 1/2” Baltic Birch Plywood (very stable). Painted white with 1/4” red lines to assist with alignment of the Approach R10. The adjustable legs help with adjusting for uneven lies, level makes sure that the unit is level and the laser, when used with a scorecard at the range allow you to have accurate alignment over a much longer distance. At the range, I use a scorecard to get my alignment point 10 - 15 feet in front of the R10 place an alignment stick on the ground on my target line. setup time is less than 5 minutes.

At home with my outdoor net, it gives me my target line behind the hitting net. If you enlarge the photo, you can see the dot from the laser on the landscape stone in front of the net.

I don't think there's a maximum we know of... There's some longer hitters on YouTube with it showing ball speeds of 170 mph+ and I think higher swing speeds. I've had some speeds past 107 as well. One note on club speed is it's reading low a lot of times right now so you could be getting more than 107 mph but not know it. Look at the ball speed. It sucks because you can't do swing speed training where you're not necessarily concerned about the quality of the strike but if you get a good one and divide by your usual smash factor (1.44 or so is a good start if you don't know) you can approximate club speed.

Yeah I've had a few register at 108 so I don't think there's a cap. Also had some errors where it showed club speed of 130mph± 🤣

I posted this in the Garmin Forums:

Just got mine a few weeks back. I've used it indoor and in the backyard against a net. It has the 3.60 software update.

DISCLAIMER: The observations and results ahead are of my particular R10, my home set up and my swings on different days.

Set up: In both places (Indoor and backyard with net in both places) I have 8 feet from ball to net and 6 feet from R10 to ball.

Alignment: It is a a PAIN to align. I use and old welcome matt that has lines in it to align it, and also works to protect from cement floor. I'm looking to get the 3d printed base a guy is selling on Etsy. The unit IS VERY FINICKY TO ALIGNMENT and if it's no aligned correctly you will see bad numbers, bad side to side deviations and bad start lines. Once it is correctly aligned it will capture the ball correctly even if it is to the left or the right of the aligned line.

Interference: The R10 gets interfere by any electronics around and starts actin up. If my wife comes near me while using her iphone and Airpods the unit starts acting up and sometimes it will even miss the shot. If it starts to rain a message on the screen will say that it has radio interference, it is a radar so it will pick up the rain and impossible to hit (no problem with that just letting you know). Any metal and/or any movement around the outskirts of the R10 location, the hitting area/mat and the net area will make it miss the shot or get strange readings.

Measurements: Distances with short irons are spot on. Backspin with short irons is way off and way too low. The unit tends to amplify left and right deviation. With long irons and woods the distances are almost correct but the backspin measurement is too high. I'm getting about 1000 to 1500 more rpm of backspin in my woods vs Trackman, more with the long irons. So, short irons reads lower spin, long irons and woods higher spin vs Trackman.  Also, the total distance calculation with long irons and woods is off because it doesn't give 20 to 30 yds of roll with your driver vs Trackman (could be because of high spin calculation with woods). Garmin needs to calibrate the spin calculations (higher spin for short irons lower spin for longer irons and woods. But let me be clear, with my particular R10 unit and set up if you make a good swing you will get good results in terms of carry distance and ball speed if you are not suffering from indoor golf swing syndrome (it happened to me the first few tries).

Garmin Golf App: I understand that with the phone you would prefer to use it in portrait. But most everybody is screen mirroring to another device so the landscape mode is a must and Garmin should update that ASAP. Because of that I mostly use the E6 range mode and have not upgraded the Home Tee Hero. Garmin is losing money there because of a simple programing upgrade (landscape mode) in the App, before I pay for Home Tee Hero I'd rather pay for the E6 golf courses upgrade that I can play in landscape mode. GS Pro golf simulation software should be added to the app since E6 is for a trial period and would also give us more options in terms of choices and price.

Conclusions: I've never thought I could have a golf swing simulator at home for $600. In no way should you compare it to a GC Quad or Trackman but for me is more than enough. I have already improve my short irons carry by 5 yards and confirmed it on the golf course. As I said before it is a pain to align and find the perfect set up but once you do works pretty good. If Garmin with a software upgrade fixes the spin numbers (to be higher with short irons and lower with long irons and woods) side deviation numbers (tends to amplify side deviation) and that gives us more realistic numbers with woods and long irons I'll be ecstatic. Also the landscape mode for the App is a must and should be done ASAP.

Thanks,

JC

Hi, can anyone tell me if the E6 Connect licence is a continuous licence, or if it has an expiry time?

thanks

I had the same question. I was pretty sure that like the Mevo plus license it is for 5 courses and some driving ranges but it is lifetime. However it is definitely non transferable as I found out from E6 Connect directly when I was investigating a second hand Mevo +. Yes you can unbind it from one machine so you can use it on another but it is always linked to the email address that was used to originally set up your E6 account. E6 are adamant that Garmin or Mevo uses that sell their machines cannot pass on the license. Unless someone was kind enough to let you use their email address?! You can always change the password

Something to be careful of. Cheers Richard

Thanks, I got an R10 on the 5th and use E6 - I was under impression it was lifetime but just read a couple of posts suggesting it was only for a trial period. Hope not 😀 I certainly haven’t been able to find an expiry date anywhere.

I’m guessing those who have owned an R10 and have used E6 for longer than me have not yet been ‘cut off’??

To Rambo and everyone else having problems like him.

I was having all the same problems. Distances were coming in way short for me when hitting into a net from the garage. I tried everything and still was unable to make it work.

I went to garmin with the issue and was able to chat with one of their support team. They asked a bunch of questions which was expected but the whole thing was handled perfectly by garmin. I ended up sending in my unit and I got the new one last night. And it works. Nothing is different in my garage other than a new R10 unit but I am actually able to hit my 4 iron 220 yards with this thing. Hope this helps. And I can’t say enough good things about garmin and how they handled this with me. Good luck.

Quite a few experienced guys who were talking about foresight units (gc2) said make sure if you want to use software licences which link to a unit, use a free dummy/burner email address that isn't your main. Then when you sell the unit you can simply hand over the password to the actual email address along with the unit and that way all the software licences go along with it without needing to pay any transfer fees or lose the licences. I've never done this so recommend looking it up yourself first!
