Good course in Knoxville Tennessee Area

We’re heading for a golf trip to tellico village near Knoxville and looking for a nice course to play on Sunday late afternoon when we get in town.  We’d like to play within an hour of where we are staying so, I guess somewhere around Knoxville area….Suggestions?

Where are you staying? Courses that are fairly close to TV is Windriver, Avalon, Willow Creek, Lambert Acres and Egwani Farms. I've heard Avalon is struggling but the others should be fine. Update us after your trip

It was really good 2 weeks ago but they aerated last Wednesday so I'd give it a few weeks. Greens were really good but a little slow prior to aerating. I think they were closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday last week. Said they were also doing many other repairs around the course.. Bunkers were unmaintained, but fairways and greens were great. Also have a food truck at the turn now so that is a nice addition.

Rarity Bay is good and quite close to Tellico Village. Eqwani Farms is also a good bet and on that end of Knoxville. 

 

Tennessee National is also nearby and it's great. It started out as a private course but I'm not sure of the current status. 

 

River Islands or whatever it's called now is fun to play but it's a LONG WAY from Tellico Village. An hour, easy.

Egwani Farms is a very good bet. Cool place. 
 

You could also call Oak Ridge Country Club or Green Meadows and see if you could play those.

Realize most likely that this trip has already taken place, but figured I would update the thread for future reference.  My in-laws have lived in Tellico Village for the last 20 years so very familiar with golf in that area. good news, there’s plenty of great options:

 

Wind River, used to be private but now public and it’s right across the lake from Tellico Village. Lots of undulation on the greens which makes it a bit quirky at times but really good track.

 

Rarity Bay - although technically a private club, they do offer public times and is definitely worth a play. Some really good quality holes

 

TN National - still private, the community has not taken off like they had hoped. I’ve never played and I’ve heard mixed reviews on things such as the quality of the sand traps. Greg Norman design, if you get a chance would definitely check it out

 

Avalon - used to be a very nice public option, as mentioned above I’ve heard that they’ve had some financial issues in the conditioning is not anywhere close to what it used to be. Haven’t played there in 10+ years.

 

Egwani - really good public option, tough, west of Knoxville. My son has played several junior tournaments there and outside of a few holes, (number 10), it’s a very solid course and test of golf
