PING G430 - Are They Finally Going Back to a Carbon Fiber Crown?

I prefer the G425 LST sound....max is awful.

Had the G400 LST maybe sounded better....arguably close.

G was loud AF....had to hotmelt it.

Anyway....hate muted carbon fiber driver sound.   Perhaps I'm the only one.   I do hope on the driver they add the facewrap, that was a good addition to the woods, feels strong when you catch one and really keeps distance up on the low strikes.

Anyway...I'll keep the 425.   I hope..please let me be strong. 😉  We all know it'll perform, there's zero doubt.

If the driver looks anything like that 3 wood. 🤢 it looks like a cobra so bad. Thats just looks though of course. Probably will be great performing like the rest with better sound. Btw instead of turbulators... how about turbulence? Like the drive shakes violently as you strike into the ball lmao. Maybe this would add 2 yards?

Found the patent related to the G430 LST Fairway Wood. Looks like they are going the SIM/Stealth TI route by lightening the face and crown to add an 80g weight to the sole for a low CG.

I kind of agree, especially since it’s so easy to fix with hot melt. I’ve come to like the G425 driver sound — like a “so bad it’s good” kind of thing.

… Then again, who am I to judge. We all have our own obsessions. I’ll admit, I care a TON about something others would say is stupid: the way irons and wedges look in the bag. I’m a design nerd and just cannot stomach goofy, flashy badges and silly fonts and whatnot. So as someone who loves the i210s, the i230s for example look great to me. Who knows how they’ll perform, but for me they definitely pass that first test.

Wow. 49 pages of detail in that patent. I scanned through & found this section that talks about the main body construction.

They also give the %mass break down of the different head components compared to a conventional fairway wood head

I agree with you on iron/wedge badges.    I like a very understated look in irons/wedges.  That's one of the reasons I like the iblade irons so much  (they also just flat out perform, also, which overrides everything else. ) .  As far as sound on drivers, It doesn't bother me either way.    Within a couple hits, I don't think about the sound anymore.   I think the G425 LST has a plastic-like sound at impact  (not sure how else to describe it).  It doesn't bother me either.

Re: driver sound/feel, I've been a long time Ping driver user and just tried hitting a friend's Stealth, I have to say the sound and feel was addicting, really soft and muted, kind of like hitting a soft forged iron.  Carbon crown like my old Callaway Fusion.  My G410 Plus feels and sounds harsh and metallic in comparison.  Will test the Stealth again.

You don't understand, or don't agree that it is important? My wife uses these words interchangeably which leads to much frustration.

Looks, feel and sound are not negotiable in my driver shopping.

And rightly so.  There are way too many high performing options in the market from the major, and even non-major OEMs for a brand to miss the mark on performance, looks, feel or sound.  Some of these attributes may not be important to every shopper, and everyone has different tastes, but to ignore any of these attributes as being unimportant is surely causing that brand to miss out on least a portion of the available market share.

Wonder what the price tag is going to be for Ti head? Like the looks especially the added sole weight. Looks like the response to the stealth fwy.

For me it's not important, lots of people comment on driver sound so it is clearly important to lots of people, just not me.

It's a better player thing. Sound is #1 on my radar when I get fit.  (because all drivers are capable of performing well with the right shaft, these days)

I 100% disagree with your “better players thing.” I’m currently a low single and my buddies who are low to mid teen caps refused to play anything resembling a “tin can” sound.

Maybe I'm totally off base here, but I've felt that I've detected a certain amount of small but increasing arrogance (for lack of a better word) from Ping the last few years.

Their pricing policies, price increases, long shipping delays and more importantly lack of communication / transparency around the delays and "take it or leave it" approach to their club design (e.g. their super loud / clicky models) all don't sit comfortably with me.

I get that they're a private company and can sort of do what they want without having to answer to shareholders and investment funds, but I'm concerned that more people are going to take the "leave it" approach to Ping's offerings. I've historically done well with their clubs and would like them to remain part of the big four without it becoming a big three.

Something I think has and will help PING is their customer service.  It is top notch. Call on the phone, within 2 minutes you're talking to a real, live person. You can ship your sticks to them (they'll email you a label), have them adjusted or repaired (they'll do L/L adjustments on an entire set of irons for $35 (I think its $6 per club with a max of $35) and then ship them back to you (standard 3-5 day FedEx is $15, overnight is $40).  Once they receive them, the adjustment or repair generally takes a day (maybe 2 if they're busy).  Tell me another manufacturer where you can get your clubs adjust/repaired and returned to you in 10 days (or less if you want to pay for overnight).

So, not only are their clubs on par with Cally, TM, Titleist, but their customer service is superior (though I have no experience with Titleist).  That's why a LOT of Ping people are loyalists and not just customers.

And the 425 Max? I honestly dont even notice it.  I had the old MacGregor VFoil and that thing sounded like a Thunder Bomb inside of a pop can.
