Diamana PD in September

Got another round under my belt yesterday as well as a range session.  This time conditions were more favorable (e.g. not the cold, heavy air of Harding Park where you can never really tell how much wind is above the tree line and get zero roll out).  Picked up another 20 - 30yards and distances were more in line as expected.  At the range I hit a couple of the longest balls I can recall hitting there.  Accuracy was impressive as well once I got a better feel for the new head / shaft.

The thing I noticed on the range was that my best results came when I tried to turn it over a little more.  Perhaps it's the difference in torque between the 1k (60TX - 3.8) and PD (60x - 3.2) - or maybe it's the new head (SIM2 vs TSi3) - or maybe (once again) it's just me - but when I consciously applied a bit more early torque to the handle - it really unlocked some seeds for me.

I played Royal Vista GC today with a couple of my weekend buddies.  I still stand by my opinion that the PD is on the boardy side.  It takes a little bit of effort to load properly and I seem to get the best results fading it.  On drives where I connected with a cut, the ball would be a nice mid/low launch rocket that would flatten out at peak height and gradually turn over to the right.  My buddy just got a mevo and my best drive was on 9 on the south course which plays 345 yards.  12* launch, 2250 rpm, 176 ball speed, 319 yards of carry.  I ended up on the right side just off the fringe.  This is pretty much MCA's counter punch to the Ventus Black TX flex IMO.  I'm getting a little better dispersion though and never hit a duck hook today although I had 2 balls knuckle/fall outta the sky which I can say is the indian, not the the arrow.

I saw some mentioning of a comparison between this and the AD XC from Graphite Design. Currently I'm playing the AD XC 6TX which seems to do well in producing the desired cut that I play, however as I'm gaining a little speed from training I am noticing that the lively handle and kick that is produced is causing my ball to spin a little too much and am in the market for something less lively. Anyone have any experience switching from something a tad softer to the PD? I'm not chasing distance but would like to tighten up accuracy - perhaps moving toward a 70g shaft might work. The PD looks like an awesome candidate!

How different is this from the TB? Anyone done a direct comparison?

Quite a bit different. One is mid/mid and one is low/low. TB has more feel and load. PD will be stiffer overall.

Reading this thread, it's clear how subjective feel is based on the individual swing. I have been playing the 1K 50TX untipped at 46". Liked it but didn't love it. Felt pretty good, but left me wanting to try the PD. Got a great deal on a 70TX untipped at 45.5". It feels very smooth to me and I'm only 108-110 on course. It has the traditional mitsu white profile feel and I'd describe it a beefed up ahina. I played a 70g for a couple seasons and the PD feels even better. In contrast to @phizzy30 I don't get along with the butt stiff, softer mid, tip stiff profiles at all in the driver. Funny thing is I love the ZF in my 3w. Only other thing to note is that I typically get along better with heavier shafts (89g 3w and 94g 5w).

I got the same exact feel from my fitting with this on saturday. I'm 110 - 113 with driver and typically fit 60g range. My fitter threw the 70x in my hands and it felt really good. I can tell it was stout but man it was super smooth for a 70g. There was not a 60x at club champion for some reason but the numbers were so good with the 70x we stuck with it

I went from 14* launch and 2800 spin down to 11.5* launch with 2350 spin. Swing speed was down 2mph with the 70g but ball speed was up 2mph giving me much better efficiency. Most importantly tho was my dispersion circle was tiny

I got a good deal on one, I went for a 40-S at 46" and I am impressed.  At almost 60, I am sub 100 and this is rather stout for me, but long and stable.  Best driver shaft I have ever had, the extra shaft length gets it out there and because of the stability I can swing away with confidence that I will still find the fairway.  I tried it at 47" first with no tipping, but 46" at D4 is the sweet spot for me, even when I miss the center I am still as long as my normal playing partners, and when I catch it in the center I outdrive them by 20.  Very happy with it.

Great information.  I’m intrigued with the PD (and DF and ZF).  Currently gaming the 1k 50s and love it with my SIM2 Max 9* head dialed to 9.75*.  I added 4g to the head and have been very successful with this setup - consistent, has a good mid/high trajectory for me, and feels good.  I played the 60s 1k for a while but didn’t feel as good as the Smoke Black I was playing at the time so went with the 50s 1k.  SS 100-104.  I really liked the feel and flight of the 6.0 (58g) Smoke Black but not as long as the 1k. I did try the 6.0 RDX Black, thinking it would be an upgrade, but did NOT get along with it at all, felt really boardy to me, nothing like the Smoke Black.  I like the RDX Blue, long with great feel but seems like my timing has to be spot on for it to work.  That said, always looking and like the idea of stout with “feel”.  Also tried the 50s Ventus Black but lost quite a bit of distance and dispersion with it.

Maybe I should be happy and stick with the 1k but…  I’m considering the 50g PD, DF, and/or ZF.  Anyone go down a flex in the PD or DF?  I love how MCA provides the lower wt. options in the “stout” shafts.  FYI, the DF not listed anymore in their website.  Is the PD the new DF?  Would the PD, DF, or ZF offer anything the 1k isn't providing?

I have the RDX in Black and Blue in 6.0, the Blue in 60 and the Black in 70.  The PD feel is most similar to the Black, but longer and lower trajectory than the Black.  I cranked my loft all the way up on my Sim 2 8.0 degree to 10 and the trajectory is good and produces mostly nice draws if I put a good swing on it.  One thing that it has eliminated for me is the hook, which is what I wanted.  This could be a result of playing it at a longer length, not sure, but I don't seem to get that flippy over the top hook swing with this.  YMMV

Thanks.  I purchased a ZF to test, see how it works in my SIM2 Max then maybe the Epic Speed.  See how it comps to the 1k before maybe trying a DF.  I played the RDX Blue yesterday and like it but it just doesn't feel as consistent as the 1k.

Finally moving on from the PD as I've slowed down over the last few months and might need to go down a flex.  The shaft was a laser when I was fresh and swinging well - but since I've stopped doing Super Speed - I tend to slow down towards the end of rounds, and couldn't load it quite consistently enough.

It's on BST now if anyone is looking to have a go.

Have you tried the Tensei 1k yet?  It's a more stable version of the ahina IMO.  Better feel as well.

@phizzy30, I finally picked up a 1K in 70TX, found a deal I couldnt turn down.  Your comparison to the 'ahina is spot on, its just as stable but seems easier to swing due to the softer handle.

I seem to be a year or so behind the rest of you.  Guess I'll be looking at a PD in 2023. LMAO!

Good to hear.  The Tensei 1K is linear and pretty stiff overall and softer in handle like you said.  The PD is linear but feels even more stiff and feels stiff in the handle so I felt as though it was harder to load unless I swung outta my shoes.  The 1K worked on stock swing and hard swings.

That's been my experience so far. I can dial it back for a controlled cut with no issues. Or I can step on it, gain 5mph and hammer one and the shaft doesnt blink.   Fun stuff.
