I'm done with cart path only

I never have a good round with cart path only.  Might as well walk if you are going to play and if the course doesn't allowing walking I'm not playing.  I love the game, but I sure the hell don't if it's cart path only.

I'm in South Louisiana and right now every course within 150 miles is cart path only. Combine that with 95 degree highs and insane humidity, I'll will take the cart path only.

 

At least when you drive from shot to shot/hole to hole, you get some sort of a breeze. I guess the other alternative is to not play but that won't be happening. I hate CPO as much as the next but its about the best we can do right now.

We are only cart path only during the winter mostly at the course down the street. My club doesn't have much of actual cart paths, but there were a couple months we walked only due to how soaked the course got.

Go spend the $$ on a Sun Mountain walking bag, pull everthing out of the bag but your sticks, a towel, a laser, 6 balls and 12 tees and hoof it. WAY better. I don't mind riding with tunes and beers, but walking is so pure and more interactive with a 4-some to be honest. Get the proper gear, and good shoes and enjoy the day (unless its hot as heck!)

I walk 90% of my rounds in the winter.  I ride 90% of my rounds in the summer.  Does not matter if you carry a sun mountain or just a driver/7/putter.  Hot, but mostly too humid.  At our course if you walk from 7 green to 9 green you will look like you just jumped in the pool.  This includes my 17 year old son who is a competitive tennis player.  

 

Agree CPO sucks, but a necessity if you want the course to be playable 12 months a year.

That's true. Should preface with anywhere but the NW you would need to be walking before 8AM... Walking with caddies could be manageable mid day. Played in Philly yesterday and was soaked - and rode... I remember playing East Lake a couple years back around 10AM in Sept and it was 95 I think. Helluva sweat, but caddies made it easy to double fist gatorades.

Yeah the fire ants are horrible, they bite the heck out of your hands or where ever.  I just recently got lite up by them on the tee box teeing up my ball on a par 3. 

 

And the plugged lies are beyond stupid.  Hit a low runner that's going to roll 270 and it plugs 230 out.  😕    Love firing in at greens 190 out when my PW only goes 125.

BTW I do have a push cart with an umbrella to keep the sun off of me and those huge hats that block the sun, they do help a ton.

Fortunately, all of the courses in my immediate vicinity allow walking, which I do almost exclusively all year (and it can get a bit hot and humid here in south-central PA in the summer).  I would do CPO only if there was no other choice.  But if you are looking for an excuse to get some new clubs, you'll have an excuse after you lose half of your current set by forgetting them somewhere on the course.

I played cart path only TPC Valley Course Sawgrass.  Picked up 3 wedges around the greens, dead serious.  58 titleist, PW 845 and some Yonex wedge.

The few times I've brought multiple clubs up to the green with me, there's been about a 50/50 chance I'd walk right by one of them on my way back to my cart, even if I laid it directly in my path.

"Gents not sure if they mentioned this at the club house, but holes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 11, 14, 16, 18 are all cart path only.  7 you can drive on the right hand side but at the 150 stake make sure to return the cart to the path".  "Other than that gentlemen have a great round".

I will only play a course that is CPO if it is walkable and I get the first tee time of the day. Otherwise forget it.

Did that this past Saturday, with the tropical storm remnants passing through here on Friday I knew it would be CPO. Unfortunately still had to pay for the cart as it was "required on weekends" at this course. Couldn't convince them otherwise so it was a little more expensive than it should have been, but less aggravating.

What is worse than taking 4 clubs from the cart to your ball is when the cart path is on the left side of the fairway and you push your ball out to the right rough, then having to guess where the ball landed.  Walking back and fourth through thick grass trying to find it really sucks.

I avoid CPO.  I am In Florida, in my early 60’s and I walk 100% of the time at my home course and every else that allows it.  My physique is strikingly similar to my Avatar, but walking mid summer is something you can grow accustomed to.  Yes, you will sweat, but it does get easier.

Played in a scramble once at a long hilly resort course that was cart path only due to heavy rain the day prior.  What an absolute PITA--- would have been better off walking.  Took forever.

But being short , lower body, kidney and liver issues-walking is difficult yet are swinging  8 degree TX shaft driver ?
