Anyone go 50, 56, 60 for their wedges?

I've been hitting the same Acer XC wedges for going on 10 years now, so looking for a change.  Looking at the Maltby TSW DRM's.  Right now I have a 52, 56, and 60, which has worked pretty well.  My biggest issue is the gap between my PW (2007 Callaway X forged, 45 degrees,) and my 52 degree.  My stock PW goes between 140 and 145, and my stock 52 goes for about 117-120.  I find myself struggling in that 120 - 135 range, especially when I need to have it come in higher and softer.  (My knockdown PW, even if I pull it off, comes in a little lower and hotter than I'd like)  I want to put a 50 degree in the bag, as I find myself having a little more luck taking some off of my gap wedge than my PW, and hopefully I can shrink that gap a bit between gap and PW.

Anyone go with the 50, 56, 60 combination?  I was also thinking about 50, 54, 58, but I like the higher bounce options in the Maltby for the 56 and the 60, because I play mostly in softer conditions.  Thanks!

I’ve tried several combos over the years and lived in WA most of my life. My favorite wedge up there was a 58* Vokey with 14* bounce.

I only recently removed my 3 iron and switched to 4 wedges. With my 46* PW, I have finally settled on 50, 54, 58. The bounces are 10, 10, 9 but I live in the desert now.

I don't now, but I have done in the past. Depending on the course, I would go either 50-54-60 or 50-56-60, but I found that I slightly preferred the 50-54-60 combination more. Why? I preferred the 54* over the 56* for chip and runs.

50-56-60 isn't a bad combination, but I also found that I needed the 60* less and less, whereas when I played 50-54-60, I made more use of the 60.

I had always played 50, 54 bent to 55 and 60. I made the switch this year to 50, 54, 58. For me, it’s easier to manipulate the wedge to add loft versus trying to take it away.

Im from the northeast and play 12 degrees of bounce in the 54 and 8 in the 58. The 54 I don’t generally open the face very often so it’s good having the higher bounce there naturally, but the 58 is the wedge I use for open face shots, so opening the face adds more effective bounce. The combination of loft and bounce has worked very well for me this season.

As above, mine is 51-56-60. But I was less worried about gapping, more focused on grind and application. The 51 is essentially another iron so it primarily is a full swing club but can be used for anything down to green side chips. The 56 can be full swing but is mostly for sand or if I need a bit more height. The 60 has heel and toe relief and not much bounce. I originally thought it would end up as a specialty club for when I needed a flop shot but for whatever reason I actually hit it well full swing so it has become a go-to inside of 75y unless the lie needs more bounce.

I'm currently: 46, 50, 54, 58.  The 54 deg doesn't see much use tho.  Thinking of going back to 46, 52, 58.

I play 46-51-56-60 with stock 140-125-105-80 yardages and it works great. I use a Maltby cavity back DBM GW bent to 51, then M-Series+ 56, and Tour Grind MG 60. I would have gone with the TSW for at least one of those, but I wanted all black. All of my wedges have different bounces and leading edge profiles. That loft progression should work well for gapping but you might consider a different model in one of those spots to diversify your short game functions.

When you have a gap having a versatile club in there is required.

I go 50, 54, 60.  My 54 is the most versatile wedge in the fact that I can play it opened and manufacture a roughly 56 or 57* shot.  I can play a trap draw with it as well.

In your setup having a versatile 50 will be the biggest requirement.

I have used that set up before. It worked ok, but I prefer to chip with a 54 degree.

4 degrees gives me around a 12-13 yard gap between clubs, so 46 and 50 is perfect. I had a gapping issue when i was using a 3 wedge set up, specifically between pw & gw.

I use to go 46-52-56-60, tried 46-52-58 and have finally settled on 46-50-56. This has been the best set up for me so far, I'm much more confident in my shot selection and don't really have to think as much about my yardages. I have 4 stock shots with each of the wedges that cover 99% of the situations I will face.

I am currently at 46, 52, 56, 62 lol. Its all about how far that wedge goes, and how the bounce interacts with your most commonly played turf. Dont get hung up on what the loft number is. Go get a fitting, and just bend it to whatever makes it go the right distance. and then give yourself a clockwork note sheet for each wedge, and start throwing darts.

I haven’t but if it works, it works. I don’t think a 6 degree gap is too big at all. I used to play 50, 54, 58, then went to 52, 58, to 52, 56, 60, and recently back to 52, 58.  I am finding I prefer the bigger gap and didn’t find more wedges helpful when around the green. I found I was always trying to use the 60 or 56 and it was easy for me to make the wrong choice. With a 52, 58 it simplifies the decision. 52 to keep it low and run it, 58 for higher and soft. And I’m more inclined to practice short game this way.

However with a larger gap, between 2 wedges, versatility in grind will help.

If you like the 56 & 60 then I think it is a no brainer to bag the 50 in place of the 52. I've played both 50 and 52 wedges at various times and they perform much the same for me as a full swing club and around the green. The favored combo used to be 52, 56, 60 when the PW was 47° but now that the PW is more commonly 44-45° then the 50, 56, 60 combo makes perfect sense.

I used to but switched to 50, 54 bent to 55 and 60. I'm sure that the one degree difference  in my sw makes no difference but its what I've been using the last couple years.

Set Gap wedge (50) for chipping and full shots, 56 wedge for sand and high pitches and dropped the 60 wedge altogether ... needed to simplify my wedge shot choices and also wanted to carry both a 5 hybrid and a 5 iron.

There are three off the shelf options: 50/54/58, 50/54/60, 50/56/60.

54/58: if your 60 is more a liability then asset or if you like taking full swings vs half swings this be the option. If the 60 is a greenside only club, then in my opinion there is no replacement for loft.  This is also 3 new clubs to learn.

56/60: only one new club to learn yardages.  If you are one of those people that use the 56 for 95% of shots from inside a 100yrds this should be your option.  There are more grind options for a 56 vs 54.

54/60: do you like using your 60 around the green? Do you spin the cover off your 56 and more 3/4 approach shots would be better? Do you like to bring it in a bit lower? You'll have to learn a few new yardages.

If tried them all and like the 54/60 combo personally.

Ive used a 50, 56, 60 for years. The 50 fits the gap between my 46 degree pitching wedge and 56 better imo. Its great in the 120-130 max range for me. Also makes the 110 shot easier as well.

Just something to think about that may interest you, Ive recently switched to a 50, 56, 62 set up. Went to a 62 since I switched to a lower spin ball and wanted to increase the stopping power to what I was accustomed to with the 60. The 50 is used from 110-130, shot depending. The 56 is used from 40-110, and the 62 is used inside 70 yards but primarily around the greens and in bunkers.

I go 45°, 50°, 56°, 60° and even toying with a 64°. I don't seem to have many gaps, and the set gap wedge is one of my favorite clubs. I'm liking the 64° as well, granted it's only 3 shots in one round but it does seem to give me some stopping power on greenside chips.

I carry 50, 56, and 60.  Honestly can't see it any other way.  I use all three quite often.  I will stick with this combo probably forever.

50 goes around 105-115 yards

56 goes around 80-95 yards

60 is for anything below 75 yard

Those three also sometimes only go 40 yards.  I don't know.  They're either broken or it's operator error.  Probably the former.

I'm at 50, 55, 60 off a 46* PW. I actually just had the 50* bent a bit weaker because it consistently was going too far. I haven't played and practiced to figure out if it's where I expect it now.

My previous irons had old lofts with 47* PW and I had 51, 55, 59 and ultimately ditched the 59 for an old faithful 60* LW design because I've been playing something in that range too long to leave it. For me I've played my whole life with a low bounce LW that I can use to scalp it off of firm sand/hardpan waste areas. My SW is higher bounce and I strongly prefer having the different options. As a SW goes, the 55* functions just like a 56* for me. No difference that I can tell for hitting it out of softer sand.

For me personally, the whole 50, 54, 58 setup doesn't work well. I want more loft in the LW and I don't need the distances so close together.

All that being said, the only thing that really matters to me is covering my distances and seeing the full carry distance of one wedge barely overlap with the partial swing carry distance of another so that if I have X yards to fly it there are easy lower and higher flight and spin options. The loft gaps are certainly good in theory, but I bent the 50* weak because it's less important to have consistent loft gapping and more important to have real world distance gapping.

Best of luck to you. Last but not least, the advent of the 52* came when PW lofts were 47-48*. The 52* wedge was never designed to slot in behind a 45* PW, so what you're observing about it not fitting your gaps is spot on.
