Cut up some balls, saw one real interesting thing.

The Callaway <SUPERHOT 55> and the <<<HEX TOUR SOFT>>> seem to be the same ball…cover, mantle and core are an identical match.  The Hex Tour Soft was a Costco release more recently…But the Superhot 55 was prior to that.

I am VERY interested in the new Callaway Costco ball.  But not so tempted by the KSig 2.3.  Have passed them up 3 times at least…

Besides that, the specs/description of the new “Pro V1 Left dot” are quite tempting. But the price is NOT for me…

It looks like the Hex Tour Soft has a slightly thicker second layer.  Could be an optical illusion, though.

From the 2021 Hot List, there is a RZN Distance, which is similar to RZN Red. Now there are micro dimples on this ball.

Snapshot below is from: https://www.adtechdd.com/pages/brands

Maxfli ‘Trifli’ might be another one to add to the list here…

I ended up ordering 2 doz RZN Distance ($23 doz) and a dozen RZN Force ($20 doz).  Both are 3 piece distance balls, which I have liked in the past.  Shipping was $10, but free at $50, so I added the $20 box to compare.

I bought 2 doz tri flies during the labor day sale at dick's.  I was running low on my top flite HC and thought I would give them a try. After 27 holes playing at elevation I would say they are a decent ball but no "wow" factor for me.

They feel more firm than 45 compression to me- harder than the e12 and HC but softer than the gamer.  They are easier to shape than all of those.  They were not high launch for me.

The ball is pretty long off the driver for me- has a nice release on the ground.  I would say it is about a half club longer off the irons than the e12 at elevation- I haven't played it in Phoenix yet.  It has a heavy feel to it compared to the other balls I have hit lately.  It reminds me of the nxt tour in that regard, but spins better than that ball. It has been very durable.  One ball thru 27 holes and it looks fine.

It chips and putts similar to the HC- little livelier off the putter than the e12. Haven't played it in the wind yet.  I may try the new softfli next when these run out. I did shoot a bogey free 4 under with it yesterday- 14 gir,28 putts so it matches up well with what I have been playing.

Some more ball sacrifices, for science.  All 3 pc ionomer.  Interestingly these are dual core compared to the Hex Tour Soft I have been playing, which is ‘dual cover’ by my eye.

MInt Titelist VG3 or Gran Z from lostgolfballs?  Originally made for the JDM market and described as in "pristine" condition so assume that they just bought a bunch in bulk from somewhere (maybe logo overruns) as opposed to them being found balls.

Do 3-piece surlyn balls make difference in performance?  How do they play 50 yards or less?

There is definitely less spin into the green.  You're not going to get one hop and stop action but it does spin a lot more than a 2 piece like the Callaway Supersoft, etc.  From Driver to the PW I like them a little better than urethane balls.  I get a more straighter flight.  That being said, I game urethan balls (Ksig, Maxfli Tour, Vice Pro, PV-1, etc) because I've gotten used to the extra spin 100 yds in.  When I play a Vice Tour I play for a little more roll out and do just fine.  It all depends on your game.  If you don't have a swing speed that produces that spin on the urethane balls, there is no difference.

I am in the same dilemma as you do.  I recently discover that I get noticeable distance gain from Supersoft, but I struggle to control 50 yards and under especially near green.  I raised my question as I had not seen substantial difference between 2 piece and 3 piece surlyn balls in the past.  Just like many, endless journey to find the magic ball

I enjoy the Cut Matte Orange, but I play orange balls usually. Also a fan of the Nitro Pulsar (also orange), but I know Nitros are a bad word on here. 🤣

Callaway CXR CONTROL. 3 piece ball available at Golfballs.com.  Have not tried this yet, but it checks the boxes.

Ha!  If you’re in the medical field at all, there is no way you don’t read CXR as chest x-ray.

I've been looking at these types of balls for awhile now. I've tried a lot of these balls mentioned, vice tour, Callaway diablo tour, Trifli, nitro pulsar. I could have swore I've tried the gamer too, but I don't remember, however, I got a great deal and got 4 dozen so I'll definitely try them again.

Going off recollection they seemed to perform the same, just sometimes felt different. I know that for the diablo tour and vice tour specifically that the feel seemed to vary, but that's definitely from the swing I've put on them. If I was forced to play just one, I'd probably go with the tri fli, I definitely liked the feel of that one better. Like @munichopsaid it has a firmer feel than it's listed soft compression, but I think it felt lively on full swings, but don't remember it feeling like that off wedges/touch shots. I will also say that it's the most recent one I've tried so there's probably some recency bias in there.

Long story short, they're all probably 6 of one, half a dozen of the other, especially performance wise to me. So try some and go with what feels best off the clubs, and you're wallet.
