blade shaming ?

The seller didn't have a 6 iron. I originally built it up as a combo 3-6 CB but I liked hitting the blades so much I built the 4 and 5 but needed a 6. I started with the Mizuno MP-32 and loved it but the cut muscle didn't look as good, so I found the MP-68 and it blends nice.

The shaft is different, but I don't notice really.

I say the KZG's feel at least as good as the Mizuno's. But they are from '01 so the grooves don't conform. They are NOS and I've had them 3ish months.

<edit> still looking for a 6 BTW. 🤣

Ah right, I was hoping for fantastical tales of holes-in-ones from lava rocks, or fending off a bear or something like that. 😄

But that makes sense! Hope you find it one day!

I've seen shaming and my opinion is that those shamming think I can't hit them so that person shouldn't even try at all.  I say play whatever you want how does another persons taste in irons affect my results.  I'm more of a wow pretty blades can I touch.

It only hurts once, except golf it hurts a lifetime

According to the internet these are the three main types of Putter

1. Blade - Bullseye, 8802, etc...

2. Heel Toe Balanced - Anser - Newport etc...

3. Mallet - Rosie, Spider etc...

I will say that heel toe balanced putters are often referred to as blades in comparison to mallets.  So I think it's legit to call them blades.

That makes total sense. The heel/toe/face balanced (straight face with minimal if any backside) vs blade (8802, bullseye) seems like splitting hairs, but ok.

My Nike and Mizuno putters are more mini mallet or "mid mallet" if you so dare but hardly blade like. Just a far cry from a Spider or something I picture as a mallet. Usually something with a whole mess back there. 🤣

The funny part is you think Ricky F gives on crap about fans eyerolling him about his clubs. The question posted is just stupid golf egoist who care what other people think of what's in their bag. I can just hear Ricky in the Cobra truck, "Guys can you fix me up a set of CB's? I saw some fatty in a Titleist hat drinking a Bud Light eyerolling me after I only hit my 5-iron 220."

Yep. Ricky will be back in blades - it's what's always suited his eyes best (apparently), so he'll return eventually.  He's struggling right now and things are mental - far, far less likely equipment-driven.  In MLB, a consistent pitcher struggles and they suddenly announce he's "tipping his pitches."  He's probably not, but it's a reason he can point to that breaks his mental spiral.  There's a variant of this in any sport.  Get the mind right and get back to it.

Referring to Anser/Newport style putters as "blades" is a separate subject for another thread.

More relevant to this particular thread is putter shaming. Blade iron shaming has been happening for about 25 years now, but shaming anyone not playing a big mallet head putter is a relatively new thing, gaining momentum the past few years.

In 1999 I was shamed into PLAYING muscle-back blades.

My sophomore year of HS, my Dad and I walked into a Golf Mart near me to replace the Top Flite game improvement set that loyally served two junior varsity seasons... I had made President's List that semester so the deal was new irons.  I had been ogling Titleist DCIs and Pings when the salesmen came up to us and said something to the effect of "Oh, you're still young, you should be playing blades!". He showed us a few models and eventually fitted me into a set of MP29s which I played until right before the pandemic.

I struggled initially, but learning to hit those things definitely helps you groove it.

I'm betting the guys who are good don't care. Sorry people pull others down too. You can never play blades (because they always thought they were never good enough to play them). I consistently shot low 80s with a set of blades as a newish golfer. I know it's not much but I'm sure some schmuck who has bladeshamed (if it's really a thing) hasn't ever done that. At best someone may tell you you are leaving a few strokes on the table but blades won't make you a worse golfer. I learned more about swing path and face by learning on blades. Now I have improved and I am not using them regularly but I attribute my relatively quick development to having played them 3 x week and I have an open relationship with them and my wife. And if it's any comfort, I switched to "players" irons (Apex) that are more forgiving so I hit more greens but I still make the same mistakes with chipping putting driving and decision making.

Now in openness, I  DONT miss having 165 yds in and hitting an absolute laser at the pin that lands short because I missed the center of the face. That was irritating and it's gone now.

This might be a mind blowing concept, but a driver is not an iron.

Your argument, not mine.  Quote "I personally think most would benefit playing a club that tells them when they are and aren't in the sweet spot.  It's a learning tool that improves ball striking."

Same thing applies for 460cc drivers compared to mini drivers which provide more feedback.  You can't have it both ways.

Do you really believe that RF was shamed into moving from his blades to cb’s?

im more of the opinion that he wanted and needed a change because his blades weren’t making him any money, but that’s probably just me.

Too bad there’s no shaming in posting threads that are shameful.

The big box stores are a different story.  If I show any interest in looking at a blade they immediately redirect me to something else.  "Try this, you'll hit it 10 yards further".  I assume there is a  corporate directive to do that for one reason or another.

In this thread we've learned that big box stores are suffering financially from a high rate of blade iron returns. One former big box store employee wrote that Titleist MB's were returned and exchanged for a set of Ping G410 irons.

I would actually doubt they (the retailers) suffer from that situation I described.  The purchaser of the 620s had them long enough that they looked poor from chatter.  I'm sure that it was outside of the exchange period.  I bet the user suffered on that deal in the trade in value they were given.  I'll take a pic of them the next time I go to GG.  I would bet they are still there.  I'll probably go this weekend, no because I am looking for anything; but rather, because I am a ho.

I can’t remember who this quote is from, but “It don’t mean a thing, if you ain’t got that swing”. During the late ‘90s, early 2000s I played Hogan Apex 2s from the mid ‘80s. Sweet spot of a pea. These clubs helped me to consistently find that sweet spot. Fast forward to today, and every time I hit a cavity back, it feels like cheating. If you have the swing to play blades, why would you want to play cavities?

Blades aren’t these mythical creatures that suddenly make you better or worse. I love how obsessed golfers are with stuff like this. I’ve seen high handicaps pick up blades and do fine with looks of shock on their face. Watched pga instructors struggle with them. Use your blades or don’t but to feel shamed over them seems beyond silly to me.

"Blade shaming"? Have actually never heard that term. I suppose I get what it means, but it seems sort of silly.

I'm close to my 5th decade of golf - Dad started me when I was a wee little pup, mid 1980s. At the time all there was were forged blades. Well, there were these cast clubs, but they were clunky and terrible (the manufacturing process was just starting to be perfected).

Over the years I've gone back and forth between being a complete fanatic, and just being casual. Times when I had a half dozen sets of clubs that I'd mix and match depending on the course I was playing, and other times when I'd just grab a bag because it was the easiest one to get out of the garage.

Have been open to experimenting with anything. Have played everything from the most finicky of forged blades, to super game improvement clubs (tried them a couple of times just for the heck of it - weirdly, I shot terribly, couldn't get the hang of them ... I mean, basically an entire bag of hybrids).

Point is, I play golf. Operative word being "play". I could never be anything shamed, as it would never occur to me to even remotely care what anyone thought about what I was playing on any particular day.
