Glove Questions (does price matter)

Recommended Posts

I have been using MG Elites for the past year. Sizing has been consistent for me when they first come out of the package. After a bit of use, I feel that they stretch a bit more than higher-priced gloves (I like my glove to fit pretty tight). I cycle through 2-3 gloves per round (especially in the TN summer months). This does extend the life of the gloves. I have not experienced any of the QC issues (busted seams, ripped velcro, etc.) that I can recall.

For me what matters most is fit and feel.  I love a glove that is all Cabretta leather.  I do not like a glove to contain any flex material whatsoever.  The two gloves I prefer are the Titleist Players and FootJoy Pure Touch gloves.  I don't go through gloves too quickly and rotate 3 or 4 gloves at any given time.  Even though I use BestGrips Microperf grips which contain a good amount of tackiness, I still prefer a glove on my left hand and I prefer full Cabretta leather.

Based on all the responses I gave MG golf a try. I'll report back if I learn anything. I will add that golf pride created this issue by only putting cord on the left hand which is where I don't need the added support because that part of the grip is corded. The right hand is on a non-corded slippery part that just gets unreasonable to keep the club face straight when I start to sweat. So basically I bought two gloves on for each hand and I'm going to try to use them one at a time (and when no one is looking, both) to see which scenario works best for me.

OK, picked up a Kirkland 4 pack yesterday at Costco. Broke one out and used it at the range a few minutes ago. I'm a multi decade Foot-Joy Sta Soft user with an occasional Titleist Players Glove thrown in.

The Kirkland glove is amazing for the price. It reminded me of the Players glove which is a hair thinner than the Sta Soft and would tend to last a little less time as well.

First full round with it tomorrow with high heat and humidity here in Virginia. We'll see but very encouraged after 2 hours on the range...

For years I played with Titleist players gloves that are $25 a glove. Now play the Kirkland glove which are about $5 per glove. Are they exactly the same quality? No…. But for the price difference it’s pretty dang close. Plus I don’t feel bad about tossing it when it starts to get soiled.

How long to the Kirkland gloves last compared to the Titleist Players glove?

Hard to say as I generally get rid of them before they get to the point of ripping/falling apart and I always have multiple gloves in play in a round. Having said that,  The Kirkland do not last as long but it’s pretty close.

I started playing 1.5 yrs ago and was opposed to a glove. I've improved and I'm swing much faster than last summer which mean no glove isn't cutting it anymore. I generally go overboard with quality so I'm wondering if anyone has found a significant difference in the $30 gloves over the $10 gloves.

MG gloves are really good surprisingly.  My buddy uses those and I tried on a new one and they feel good on my hands.  If you wanna go high end, I would highly recommend the FJ Pure Touch.  They are even better than the Titleist Players glove in terms of feel.  Softest gloves on the market with superior grip to them.

I was a glove snob for a long time, Pure Touch or Players only for about 5-6 yrs and only FJ Sta-Sof the 15 yrs before but last year decided to try the MG and DAMN they feel fantastic for the price and I don't think its a discernible difference to the high end stuff, certainly nothing that has any impact on the actual swing (index was 6.2 in 2019).

I'll drop dough on golf equipment and green fees.  I won't for golf clothes because they are all made overseas in Asia and will eventually get holes in them.  Shoes I will spend the extra cheese on simply because you can't put a price on your foot health.  Gloves can go either way for me.  I've spent 8 to 25 bucks on gloves.  I just prefer the feel of the Pure Touch.

I’m a huge fan of the FJ Pure Touch and Titleist players gloves. But living in the desert where it’s 100°+ in the summer gloves get ruined fast. I put my brand ego aside and bought two Maxfli Cabretta gloves for $22. Not nearly as thin but still soft and played three rounds in Palm Springs this last weekend and never sweat through them.

I'm a FootJoy snob when it comes to gloves.

You just gotta test em out and find out what works for you.  You are mostly paying for the logo on anything you are buying as no one has the market cornered on glove making materials so many companies are capable of making a good glove. You just have to find the one you like the best.

Does costco have the gloves in store or is everyone ordering online?

Yes, Costco carries them in stores but like many Costco items, there is no guarantee that any particular store will have them in stock.  As far as I know, this only applies to gloves for the left hand (for right-handed golfers).  I have never seen gloves for lefties in a store and have not seen any mention that they have seen them anywhere but online.
