Shanty Creek or Garland Resort

I am looking a buying a lot in northern michigan to eventually build a vacation home on.  There are lots within my price range in both of these golf communities.  I surprisingly have never played at either resort.  I am wondering which resort has the best golf because they both offer memberships.

I would say Shanty Creek has the better golf, but Garland is very good as well. I was up there in late may and really enjoyed Monarch and Swampfire at Garland. I would also guess Garland is way cheaper, would for sure play all at both before I made the purchase.

 

Also remember Garland is in like the middle of nowhere, Shanty Creek has a few towns fairly close.

True, Shanty Creek is by Short's Brewery and has some nice lakes near by, but yes I should probably try to play some of the courses at both of them.

I would build in Shanty Creek from a pure investment standpoint.  The Bellaire area is much better in terms of location compared to Garland.  On top of that Shanty Creek and the surrounding area is far better than Garland.  Its not a knock on Garland as they have good golf but to me this is a very easy decision

Agree with this.  Resale at Shanty will be much better and close to more things to do beside Golf.  Garland is middle of no where.
