Bryson says Cobra Drivers suck, Cobra compares Bryson to Temper Tantrum throwing 8 year old

I actually think the Cobra Tour staff (top level) are very lucky. They will literally make a club to your specs and eye. TM would adjust what product they have and tinker ... Cobra start from scratch. If you look at every review Cobra more than holds it’s own ... now looks are a different thing. I’m not sure Cobra appeals to all in that department

This is simply incorrect. TaylorMade makes whatever their players want and will start from scratch to do it. Sounds like Bryson really hit a nerve with you huh?

He lost me as a fan. You don't publicly slam the hand that feeds you. Puma / Cobra should drop him.

Cobra also has to make drivers for the rest of us. Loft Up and put a controlled swing on it Bryson. The ball will still go 340 to 350.

it cost like $40 to make a driver.....lol....they can afford to make 200 different drivers for him

i think that his favorite was a heavy George Izette that he got from, Henry Picard?

Hi GV 🙂 Yes, Sam's friend and fellow tour buddy, Henry Picard, approached Sam when he was having a terrible time with his driver with this George Izette driver, for which Sam ended up paying Mr. Picard $5.25 for the driver. Sam would go on to use the driver for 17+ years, through all of his majors and most of his tour victories. It was actually the steel shaft, versus the head, that was magic for Sam, as it was the strongest/heaviest steel shaft that Izette could locate at the time, and it held up to Sam's extremely fast SS, which was amongst the longest on Tour through his 40's(120-125+).

When Sam finally retired the Izette driver, he went with Toney Penna, who left MacGregor to start his own club manufacturing company. He would just have Mr. Penna put the Wilson Staff sole insert into the driver. The Staff drivers that he carried in his trunk, signed and sold to fans, MAY have been hit a few times on the range, but he NEVER played them, haha. Mr. Penna would also use the strongest steel shafts available at the time, and apparently they were custom made and took longer to produce and get to Mr. Penna to put the heads on and wrap. That is why Sam was so upset when Richard flipped the cart and broke both of his new Penna drivers(along with his Staff 5i and the 9i bent and then Richard fractured it when he tried to straighten it, haha), as the shafts snapped when they came part way out of the bag. I loved Sam but he did not let things go and Pete told me that between he and Richard, Sam was usually upset with one of them by the time that he left Pittsburgh, hahaha. Take care:) Madison

He literally would be screwed without Cobra. No one would pick him up after that knowing how difficult he is to work with and that they'd have to build him a set of single length irons on top of everything.

Several on here have said variations of this, and it's completely false.

Bryson has the cash to be a free agent...much like several others...and experiment with all OEMs until he finds something that meets his needs.

Most on here are too busy bashing the dude to realize that this very well may be his point.

Either manufacture something that meets his standards (unrealistic or not)...or...free agency is on the horizon.

Also...to be clear...he's a very hard dude to root for.

But let's not pretend he didn't know exactly what he was doing.

It bothers me a little bit (being an actual "scientist" myself) that he makes these amorphous statements that sound quasi-scientific but lack any real meaning. This is not to be mean, but he was a physics major at a school that's better known for business education. All he had was an undergrad major in physics, and in the physics world, that's barely hitting infancy. One of my majors in college was chemistry, and if I went about rambling on as if I were an expert in the subject, I'd have as much credibility as a middle schooler equiped with Google.

He's not an expert in physics or science, and he doesn't need to be. If he would shut his mouth and just play golf, he has the potential for a pretty decent career.

This is exactly my feeling towards Bryson and his "science".

Somebody should send him the ball flight laws JPEG that explains how to hit a draw.  Saying that clubheads don't draw is just stupid.

If Cobra go then Puma go and that’s a serious amount of money down the plug hole. Nike ain’t picking him up

It is serious money to some folks.

But...is it serious money to him?  Maybe...maybe not.

Kind of the whole point of free agency.  You're not locked into anything and can play whatever works and feels best.

Multi year deal... bonus for wins. If he screws that up his agent will go crazy. That’s serious money I would wager if he did well on course it would dwarf his winnings

Agreed that the things he says don't sound like he knows much and he definitely is not educated to the point of being a 'scientist'.  He has had a pretty decent career though.  IMHO he has some serious issues that make things like press conferences after a poor round a really bad idea...

When he was first becoming known I met several good players who hated him because of his ugly swing and single length clubs with big grips.  The things that he says simply add fuel to the fire.  Does not seem like that is going to change any time soon!

If I was Cobra I would release him from his contract and tell him to build his own driver since he is the self proclaimed genius.  Never been a fan and he keeps reinforcing my opinion every day.

I’m no Bryson fan but didn’t think this particular comment was a big deal. But, maybe it’s naive to be surprised at the harsh punishment for deviating from corporate happy talk, and at the willingness of the sheeple here to embrace it.

Harsh? He threw his whole team at Cobra under the bus, no

He punished himself…

I wonder if a different shape of driver head might be uniquely suited to Bryson’s upright swing? I’m thinking of a hybrid-type shape except with a bigger footprint. Longer heel to toe, shorter front to back.

2 things stand out to me.   The 3rd , i assumed was obvious

1.  Bifurcation - sure seems lot of bifir’ing going on.  Wonder if USGA reads GolfWRX?

2. I dont see that he is that much longer than other players.  It shows up often to me when he’s paired w Rory or DJ or JT.    Its like if he was playing basketball and had great vertical and could dunk ,  so what.  That is not the only part of the game.    I’m sure there are 15 + players that could go for 6 at Bay Hill , but there is more to the game

3. He is an Word not allowed.

"He threw his whole team at Cobra under the bus"  - go back and read what he said.  He criticized no persons and in fact said "we're still trying to figure it out."  Again, I'm no Bryson fan, but his sin here was no more than daring to speak ill of a product made by his Corporate Overlord.
