It bothers me a little bit (being an actual "scientist" myself) that he makes these amorphous statements that sound quasi-scientific but lack any real meaning. This is not to be mean, but he was a physics major at a school that's better known for business education. All he had was an undergrad major in physics, and in the physics world, that's barely hitting infancy. One of my majors in college was chemistry, and if I went about rambling on as if I were an expert in the subject, I'd have as much credibility as a middle schooler equiped with Google.

He's not an expert in physics or science, and he doesn't need to be. If he would shut his mouth and just play golf, he has the potential for a pretty decent career.

I equate the golf media anointing him the “scientist” to that very same golf media comparing Brooks to a NFL LB. Both are closer to those things than most PGA pros, but in actuality, not so much.

I hope it blows up. It would be awesome to see Bryson be a FA.

Manufacturers would be scrambling harder than cobra is now to get in his bag

for all the haters out there crapping on Dechambeaus education, google is probably your best friend RN

I dont have to like the guy to repsect his education and how he has applied his love of Physics and Geometry to the game he loves

Most of you guys crapping on his education are probably working for Target or Home Depot.   If thats what you choose do do, great...but crapping on a guy for being educated and applying his education into something he loves is basically living a dream.   I am not a Dechambeau fan but you guys crapping on him being a scientist is low key classless.

Several on here have said variations of this, and it's completely false.

Bryson has the cash to be a free agent...much like several others...and experiment with all OEMs until he finds something that meets his needs.

Most on here are too busy bashing the dude to realize that this very well may be his point.

Either manufacture something that meets his standards (unrealistic or not)...or...free agency is on the horizon.

Also...to be clear...he's a very hard dude to root for.

But let's not pretend he didn't know exactly what he was doing.

Yup he has not liked the RAD driver at all.

He won Bay Hill with the LTD and would probably rather play that but that wouldn’t be as good for cobra.

The second part of his quote is more interesting where he mentions fade bias in drivers being more prevalent with the way they design heads the last few years. (Something even I have noticed but this confirms it imo)

Bryson seems like he does draw the ball slightly when he’s playing good so maybe there’s some truth there and he’s fed up.

Maybe he’ll just come back and say he forgot to tighten the head, “my bad”.

The drama is pretty normal for the generation where everyone gets a trophy.

Except Bryson this Sunday.....

I love these generational call outs based on a quote about a driver head.

Post WWII every generation is soft af, so most likely yours included.

How dare you! NOBODY  here would be caught dead working at Target or HD, or carries it less than 300 yards off the tee for that matter!  All CEOs, ballers and bombers. 😂

Ha!  Yes.  Just having some fun.....but to your point, the fact that he's trying to swing like a long drive competitor and getting pissed when his drives fly offline (just like a long drive competitor) leaves me shaking my head.

You chastised people for not googling his education, then posted a link to an article—which presumably you googled—that claims he has a degree when in fact he doesn’t. Nice try though.

Did you read the artice or just breeze through it like you did my original post? The guy has more education in his pinky then 90% of people in this world but guys like you will take shots at others who clearly have accomplished 1000x more than anyone ever will.  thats the sad part.

You know it occurs to me that the title of this thread is not exactly correct.  Bryson did not say that Cobra drivers suck.  He said that the prototype driver head that he and Cobra are working to perfect sucks.  There is a difference and I am sure that he would say that Cobra drivers are great for normal people.  LOL he does know enough to do that I think...  Anyway how many golfers in the world can even get a five degree loft driver with whatever super stiff shaft he is playing off the ground?

Of course, that doesn't include the cost of the doing the design work or the work to prep the design for mfg

That $96-100 driver is wholesaled at approximately $350 to the pro shops/stores, leaving about $250-255 in profit, out of which comes the R&D, commercials, contests, print ads, tour staff(and the Class A's like myself), legal department, customer service, management and free equipment that is given away. I might be missing a category or two, but all of that comes out of the OEM's profit, and that margin is razor thin, so it could be said that when all of that is figured into the equation and said and done, a driver has a cost to the OEM of $300-325. Take care:) M

Bryson says his particular prototype driver head sucks, not all the drivers Cobra makes sucks. Cobra compares Bryson to temper tantrum throwing 8 year old. Was a bit wordy! 😂

You really see the other OEMs tripping over themselves to invest the capital in one-length irons and wedges?  How much attention will his equipment needs require from techs that will ultimately take away from their other staffers?  You think DJ, Rory, et al are going to be happy if the Taylormade tour van is spending an inordinate amount of time on his bag vs. theirs?

Hi GV 🙂 Yes, Sam's friend and fellow tour buddy, Henry Picard, approached Sam when he was having a terrible time with his driver with this George Izette driver, for which Sam ended up paying Mr. Picard $5.25 for the driver. Sam would go on to use the driver for 17+ years, through all of his majors and most of his tour victories. It was actually the steel shaft, versus the head, that was magic for Sam, as it was the strongest/heaviest steel shaft that Izette could locate at the time, and it held up to Sam's extremely fast SS, which was amongst the longest on Tour through his 40's(120-125+).

When Sam finally retired the Izette driver, he went with Toney Penna, who left MacGregor to start his own club manufacturing company. He would just have Mr. Penna put the Wilson Staff sole insert into the driver. The Staff drivers that he carried in his trunk, signed and sold to fans, MAY have been hit a few times on the range, but he NEVER played them, haha. Mr. Penna would also use the strongest steel shafts available at the time, and apparently they were custom made and took longer to produce and get to Mr. Penna to put the heads on and wrap. That is why Sam was so upset when Richard flipped the cart and broke both of his new Penna drivers(along with his Staff 5i and the 9i bent and then Richard fractured it when he tried to straighten it, haha), as the shafts snapped when they came part way out of the bag. I loved Sam but he did not let things go and Pete told me that between he and Richard, Sam was usually upset with one of them by the time that he left Pittsburgh, hahaha. Take care:) Madison

I had a chance to talk to Sam in the clubhouse at the Lower Cascades - back in the late 1970's - and he told me the story of the Izette driver.  He said he got about 50 each year from Wilson, and he would hit them, and he was lucky if he liked one of them.  But he sold them to guys who would go to him for lessons, and wanted to play the same driver that Sam played.

I took lessons from a pro in Buffalo who sold a lot of George Izette golf clubs, BTW.

This is great! Imagine the long drive guys getting pissed and scorning the manus after every missed grid (or complete whiff!) 😄

”Ahh COME ON, Krank!!!?? It’s your fault I swung so hard that I completely missed the balllllll!!!! You suck!!!”
