Adding length to putter?

Just bought a 34” putter (still has plastic on it in case I take back). They had a 35”. I think I’d like 34.5” but custom orders from PING are looooooog.  Should I take back the $34” and choke down? Or keep 34” and add 1/2”?

I putted with it today and love the 34” for all normal putts. But when I need the extreme long ones (hope not often) I struggled with the shorter putter. Getting to hole took more effort than with my current game which is 35”.

If you don't care about extensions just add an extension and put on a new grip. If you're one of those people that think a 0.5" extension on a putter changes feel, flex, stability (yeah I've heard this all) then go get the 35", cut it down and put on a new grip. Literally no need to order a custom length for a 10min fix.

Ping doesn't do diff weighted heads for diff length (Cameron used to, do they still?) ... so it's not a big deal.

You could get a Ping with an adjustable shaft? That way you could play with the length to find what you like best on-course.

To achieve "balance", some putter experts feel if you shorten a putter, you need to add weight to the putter head and conversely, if you lengthen a putter, the putter head should be lightened.

Without a lot of tools, it is easier to add weight (lead tape) than remove weight (tour dots) from a putter head.

I will likely add a half inch extension.  For some reason I thought it was frowned upon by fitters and WRX folks and couldn’t remember why.  That’s the easiest to do it sounds.

It's fine I've heard some guys say an inch or more is fine too. It's cheaper than a new shaft and really how much force are we putting on the butt section in a putter stroke?

Scotty still do, they go lighter weights for 35" (Usually 10g for standard) and heaver weights by 5 gram increments as it goes down an inch. Its not gospel because you can change the weights to match your stroke anyway. He has categories for lighter, standard, heavy and extra heavy (all in 5 gram increments).

My wife has the PING adjustable shaft putter and its great, I get to crank it up and use it too 🙂

To the OP, some of my Scotty's have been cut an inch or half inch here and there and you don't notice any massive changes.
