After posting a 61 while wearing pants, why would you play the next round on an overcast day with a chance of rain, in shorts?

Less fabric to get wet?

You are right of course, but nice for us that she did.

Looks like 6ix got it back together. It's going to be tough for Yealimi and Lydia to catch her. Of course stranger things have happened.

Nice round by Minjee, but probably a little too late.

We've seen Ariya hit a few bad shots over the years, but she really had a rough stretch on her front nine. Ouch.

Ayaka and Pajaree hanging in there. Pajaree should post her best finish in a major. Previous best was 14T.

I was shocked how much Ariya was getting her upper body in front of the ball through impact, more than I recall recently from her.

It amazes me that a top player in the world can't figure out a way to gain confidence in a driver.  She's one of the most powerful players out there and is regularly hitting into greens from the furthest distance out, after hitting 2 iron, when other players hit driver.

Would be disappointing to go through an entire career and not be able to take full advantage of a physical strength.

I'd like to see her just commit to it and over time figure out a way to make it work

Now that it has persisted for a few seasons now, I believe it would be fair to term it as a mental fragility on her part to not come to terms with it.   There is no reason that a professional player like her, who is so solid in her ballstriking, should not have worked that issue out over that time frame.  If it is a lack of confidence - which it surely must be at this stage given the overall soundness of her swing, one thing can be certain and that is that she will never overcome that lack of confidence keeping that club(s) in the bag or worse, in the locker.

Lydia couldn't buy a putt today. She's certainly capable of shooting in the low 60s, so if 6ix stumbles...

I've come to believe that it's not a confidence issue, but rather strictly strategic. She believes she's long enough with her 3 wood to give her plenty of birdie opportunities. With the tour setting up so many par 5s less than 500 yds, I can see her thinking. What did she hit on the par 5 18th today? 2 iron and 5 iron?

Only if she "hemorrahages" strokes to the point of finishing above par ... I mean, I think she could post a -2 or -3 round tomorrow and that would in all likelihood win it for her.   So if 6ix was to post a -3 (68), Lydia would have to post a 62 for a playoff.  Patty held her off at Rancho Mirage, and I don't think Jeongeun will succumb either . . . though, it is golf and that is why they play all four rounds.

I cannot recall which hole it was, probably because it was in the wee hours out here on the Pacific coast, but Ariya left her 3-wood in the bag and played an iron off the tee ... leading to a situation where she was the first to play from the fairway.

I think a lot will depend on the opening holes. If 6ix starts two over, and Lydia closes the gap, it's game on.

That would in part be because they are playing in a group tomorrow.  It will be much harder then to resist the surge in emotions and pressure.  I just don't think I can handle being up from 2:00a.m. to watch the full round!  I slept most of the daytime today as a result! 😆

Are you suggesting that he should also post "anti jinx" statements during the olympic golf competition . . . . . . perhaps directed at a pair of players from the Phils? 😛😂👍

I've done it 2x in the US Opens... in 2020, ALK, in 2021, Yuka... So I am waiting for the next US Open, I am not that good in the other majors so far LOL.  Of course these players need to be playing in these majors first (not a problem with Yuka anymore)

It was a couple holes on the front nine that I noticed it again.  She was about 25 yards behind Lee6 and 35 further out than Anannarukarn, after hitting a good 2 iron

I think it must be lack of confidence, because from a purely strategic stand point, it doesn't make sense to never hit driver.  The guys who really dig into the stats on the men's tour, would say that it doesn't make sense, regardless of the average length of the course.

I'd be interested to see her strokes gained off the tee stats, if available

Re Ariya's driver, you'd have to say that it is certainly a mental issue now, perhaps exaggerated during the heat of competition (on the coverage it was noted that her caddie says that she bombs the driver during practice), but perhaps a swing issue was at the genesis of the problem?

If she tries to hit driver with that upper body lurch that I saw in R3, well she just won't have a hope, you'd get smothers, blocks and ducks.

Just my opinion of course, I may not necessarily be the world's leading swing analyst.

Nice to see Rose make the cut. Didn't she play nearly 8 rounds last week, and then jump on a plane? She's got to be dragging.

She must be dragging - between travel from West Coast US to MD for the Girls Am, 8 rounds there, travel to Europe, jet lag and then this event.   She had a wild third round.  Nice run of four straight birdies after three straight bogeys.  Then a dust up on the back nine.

She is gritty. In addition to having great talent.

Leona Maguire off to a flyer with 3 straight 1 putt birdies.

Wondered when she would get her putting sorted, most of the putting elites have struggled so far incl Inbee.

I am loving this championship. A course for course managers, not bombers!

As unofficial president of the Lee6 fan club, bring on this glorious day! I was pretty critical of what she was doing on her back swing and transition a few weeks back, but look at her now!! You can see she is still working on it, but once she gets that transition right, there is freedom and release in the downswing. Real swagger.

But honestly, hand on heart, I never doubted her. I am barracking for her big time here. Notice I say "barracking" here, as an Australian. I could root for her too, in case that helps.

As a fellow Aussie, I appreciate the cheekiness in your last sentence

I agree with Karen. With softer greens it should help the better wedge players. We could see some really low scores.

Watched the group of Ariya, Charley and In Gee tee off the first, 398y par 4:

Ariya takes an iron and carries it 173y....wtf, my 6I distance!

Charley takes driver and carries it 242y

In Gee takes driver and carries 216y.

Sadly, Ariya's lost her swing in this event and will just be hanging on till the finish.

Six needs to get her management team to up their game...wearing a nice pair of slacks with 2 stripes on each leg = 4.

Find a fair, legal way around Adidas patents or get a sponsorship from them or get creative....6 stripes on each leg?

She's a marketer's dream, better than George Costanza's Seven.
