Rory "not patriotic"??

The Irish Rugby team has 2 national anthems, to put some context on it. Someone was always going to be upset by him choosing.

I’m surprised he is going, with the travel and how much golf they will be shoehorning in over the next few months. If it was anywhere other than Japan or the US he probably doesn’t play.

I don’t blame Rory at all. As he and others have stated here, he’s in a tricky spot. For the longest time he even was hesitant to reveal that he was Catholic due to the tricky nature or Northern Ireland’s political climate. Add in the heightened tensions due to the parade season up there, and Brexit, I’m shocked he didn’t pass on this. Shoot, Covid is a better excuse than Zika. Rors will sort himself out.

When you look on paper without knowing the player 5 wins tour championship, a players you think that is not good? then Justin Thomas is average player, Xander is below average player, Brooks has won 3 times in the last two years one being a major is that average or below average player, Cantlay has won 3 times in two years below average player by your standards there are a handful of above average players

as i stated earlier....not comparing him to 50 other players who are NOT as good as he is.....im comparing Rory to Rory....whats so hard to understand......

Brooks has won 4 majors to Rory's 0 in that same time span....not sure anyone would call that average. I think your thoughts are betraying you Annikan.

Rory is top 25 in FedEx cup and has a far better past couple seasons than a lot of people.  But as usual you seem to come in with some hot takes

Well ... if golfers are having better results than Rory, maybe they're better than Rory.

That's the great thing about golf ... you're only as good as your results.

I like Rory's honesty, and would feel the same way even as a U.S. citizen.  In fact, I don't know why any of the pros would even bother with it this year given it isn't likely to be a particularly fun experience.  Do you really have a responsibility to represent your country in some athletic event?  Who really cares who wins the most medals?  And while I know the medals won by Rose, Stenson, and Kuchar are occasionally brought up in t.v. conversation, it seems it's more often as an afterthought  than  anything else.

I think threads like this are likely to be indicative of why Rory is not hugely fussed about the flag and the Olympics - either way he decides to go, someone will take disagree and he will hear about it a thousand times over. There is going to be no pleasing everyone when it comes to the decisions that he has had to make. I genuinely do wonder why he feels that he should go and play.

On his golf game - there seems to be some kind on internal conflict there. Wants to have more from life than being a golfer but also realises how good he is. I suspect that if he felt he could put golf on the back burner for the next however many years he would but he can’t. Stepping away like that would make it pretty difficult to step back in and then his obligation to his sponsors are such that whilst I am sure he is financially set, it would hurt him significantly if he were to take that step back.

i think the problem with Rory is that the expectations wore him down because he is ultra talented. That golf swing is absolutely perfect and success at an early age is a tough thing sometimes.

Rory is right next to Brooks and Bryson as the most annoying people in golf.  If he stopped playing golf tomorrow we would all be better for it

He is frustrating but in a complete different way.

You are comparing Rory to Rory. The Rory now compared to a 3 year span that ended 7 years ago? You are still waiting for that to happen again? You should get a life and let things go. Since then he has won 10 times including two tour championships and a players. That is far from average, you are just trying to get attention by trolling Rory. You have proven yourself boring....As far as the olympics if he doesnt want to go to Japan and spend weeks away from home that his decision, respect it and move on

Brooks and Bryson are at least motivated

Rory, I don't know-maybe he needs less peleton and more short game practice

He just needs less family... After all we all know golf is the most important thing on Earth!  Definitely more important than a wife and child.

Unless you have lived where Rory has its difficult to understand the politics.

I don't care if he's British.  Him supporting a British team is utterly irrelevant.  Lots of Irish ( from the Republic) support English clubs.

I live in the South and recently enough I had occasion to do business in the North.  I was asked " how are they all in the free state" which in itself can be derogatory.

Do a bit of research and realise how much of a tightrope the chap has to cross.

It's

agreed i think he does very well

Rory lives mostly in the USA and married a US girl.  I don't think the participation, or lack there of, in the Olympics  is much about patriotism.

I still say Rory got lazy toward golf because he has a ton of money and has other things he likes better, but is struggling to come to terms with it.

I know that would be me.  All that traveling gets old and tiresome.  Especially with $100M in the bank.

Same Rory who said "I don't like the Ryder Cup, its just an exhibition..." then he turned Pro and LOVES it now.

You’ve never said something, as a younger man, that you now feel differently about, or perhaps even regret?
