Ok, I'm hooked...FG-17s this time.

Over the last few years, I've found a nearly new set of Walter Hagen Haig Ultras from 1970 (couldn't have been played more than a couple of dozen rounds) and that got the vintage club bug going for me.  Earlier this year, I picked up a set of MacGregor M89s that I posted after the cleanup effort on them.  Most recently, I picked up a set of Wilson Staff FG-17s.  They've got some bag chatter but the club face and grooves are in great shape.  I replaced the grips a week ago or so and have taken them to the range a few times and I can't get over how nice these irons are.  While I had the grips off, I installed one of the foam damping systems available in the shafts and between them and the new grips, mishits are not at all punishing to my elbows and joints like some of my other vintage clubs.  If it wasn't for having nice original leather grips on the others, I'd swap them out quickly.  

 

My goal is a set of clubs from each decade from the 1950s on (I have a set of old MacGregor OA hickories, too).  So far, I have:
 

• 50s:  Late 50s MacGregor Colokrom M89 with M85W Persimmons
• 60s:  
• 70s:  1970 Haig Ultras (no woods yet)
• 80s: 
  • WS FG-17 (2-PW) with Titleist Persimmon woods (1,3,4,5)
  • MacGregor Jack Nicklaus Muirfields 3-SW with 1,3, and 5 matching persimmon woods.  
• 90s:  
  • Mizuno MP14s (3-PW)
  • Golfsmith 260 Titanium Driver (my first serious driver)
• 00s:  
  • MacGregor Tour PCBs (3-PW) 
  • Snake Eyes 675 blades
  • TM 580 Driver
  • Snake eyes CMF 3/5w
• 10s: 
  • Cobra BioCell+ (3-PW)
  • TaylorMade R1, Superfast 2.0, 
  • TM Burner Superfast 3/5 woods)
• 20s: 
  • Tommy Armour 845 Forged (4-AW)

I don't honestly know when the Muirfield's were released or when mine were produced but I suspect it was in the 1980s.  I would love to find some 1969 Bullet Back Wilson Staffs to fill in the 1960s hole, but still considering if I need to find some Hogan's from that era.

Nice!  FG-17s were what pushed me over the edge to go full on vintage for the past year.

I don't think you can go wrong with Fg-17's.  They really are a great iron.  I think it fair to say they would be in most blade lovers top ten irons of all time list.

Muirfields were 1983-1986.  Muirfield 20ths, if those interest you, are from 1987 to 1991 or so.
