Kyoei KK CB Irons

Recommended Posts

Did a thing today. Bought these Kyoei KK CB Raw Irons.

I’ve spoken with previous owner and shop that sold them to me. Apparently they were once black. Stripped and made raw. In great shape overall like new condition.

now for the tricky part. I’ve never hit or even seen a Kyoei in person. Just drooled over photos online. Finally bit the bullet and got a set.

I don’t have them in my possession yet. But when they get here this week I’ll be having them built with my Oban shafts. These are pics from the shop who sold to me.

I’m curious for those of you out there who have or have had Kyoei. What can I expect? Since I can’t even find a single review to read or watch. I really don’t know what to expect. I hear they are really soft. So soft they make Miura feel like bricks. But other than that. I know nothing. Are they easy to hit? Hard?  Sneaky long? Forgiving? Etc. what can I most compare them to?

ive had multiple Miura irons. cB57, mc501, mb101 and wedges. Kinda thinking in my mind maybe close to the mc501. But that’s just simply a guess. No clue.

fill me in!  Hope to have them built and on the course this weekend. But until then. I’m on the edge of myself in excitement waiting for them to arrive.

They look similar to the CB-1008, and the Epon AF-Tour CB.  Sweet sticks. Let us know how they feel once you get them.

You are leading the way my friend, you’re gonna have to tell us how they stack up against Miura etc. I’ve been drooling over everything Kyoei for a while now, just not brave enough to be a trailblazer like you. Good luck, please update us so we can all live vicariously!

Took the Kyoei out today for the first time. Now I will say I just stopped at range on a whim on my way home from work. It was 100° outside and didn’t have golf shoes etc. just went and hit a small bucket.

my very first hit was with an 8 iron and hit it 159 carry and a small draw.  Most of my shots were very similar. Honestly I hit them good. However it really wasn’t a love at first sight. At least not in love yet.  I didn’t seem to hit them as high as I normally hit my previous clubs (MC501 with exact same shafts).  And the clubs honestly didn’t feel as good as my Miuras. And we’ll. The mishits I did have hurt lol. There was certainly more of a vibration and feel on bad shots than I’m used to.

It may be because it was hot and didn’t have my A swing today. It may be because I loved my Miuras so much and just so used to them.  But I’m just not compelled sold on these Kyoei irons just yet.  But they look amazing and I just want to love them so much.

Great looking set of heads OP!!!
They remind me of my vega VDC heads.

Just a few ideas before you trade back out of these…

“small bucket after work and no golf shoes” is hardly a fair comparison and I’m sure you would agree. I noticed you already had them up for sale/trade. Maybe buyers remorse? Hope not so
please tell us the following:

1. Swingweight the same as your gamers?
2. Lie angles the same as your gamers?
These two specs alone will have a tremendous effect on your ball striking ability/comparison to your favorite gamers. The KK’s also have an aggressive leading edge that will affect turf interaction and feel.

Look forward to helping solve your dilemma.

swingweight is the same. D3.  I’m coming from Miura mc501. I’m using the exact same shafts and grips. I’m not really sure about the lie angles.

I did take them down off the Classifieds. I haven’t decided what I want to do so didn’t wanna make a rash decision and regret so I took them down

Both sets of heads are high quality. Check.

Same shafts, lengths, grips, and swing weights. Check.

Find a reputable shop that can adjust the lie angles to match your mc501 heads (I am presuming that you can find center with the mc501’s and are happy with all of them) and I am sure you will enjoy the strike with the KK’s. Depending what machine they have, they can still measure the cb501 heads without your shafts fully installed to get the baseline. Get that info from them so YOU know them.

There is not a gigantic difference in head design. Unless for some reason the KK’s are a smaller overall head? Not exactly sure but doesn’t seem to be.??

After lie angle alteration, then and only then, you can fairly and accurately compare the “feel” of the strike.

It is a huge difference to be only 1 or 2 degrees off in lie angle!!
distance will be effected by their lofts. For your knowledge, get that dimension on every head also. It’s a simultaneous measurement when checking lie angle with most machines out there. You will be happy you did!
take care and hit em where you want em to go!
