Interesting that (it seems) they went away from the CG technology that they were pushing in the MG2 line.

Look closely and you'll see that they haven't gone away from that. The TPU insert on the MG2 was all about vibration dampening and sound/feel, not CG placement.

 

The CG story in MG2 was about the "thick-thin" mass distribution and these MG3 pics seem to show that the wedge still has mass up near the top of the head (see the way the top line is shaped to make it appear thin at address). So it looks like a continuation of the same CG story as MG2 and they likely figured out a better way to shape the head to achieve the feel/sound goals they were after.

I never really put too much thought how the back of a wedge looks.But from address, these look perfect!

Look closely at the grooves. Looks like they have short little grooves inside the grooves. 
 

It’s like a groove inception
