TaylorMade MG3 wedges - 2021 3M Open

Recommended Posts

I got to play around with these on Friday. Very nice! I’ll probably go with the black, because the chrome on the toe is too shiny and not satin like the back of the club.
I wish they’d offer the TW grind in Raw or black.

Is there any way to stop the faces rusting too much?

I think the Satin Chrome will be more durable than the black but don’t like the way the MG2 faces went really dark against the chrome head

Years ago you would coat Scotty’s with oil to prevent rust…could you do the same  here or will it affect spin?

Alternatively a monthly soak in Coke or Vinegar??

Order placed after demoing the MG3s today, just as with the MG2s I loved the interaction with the ground. Went with the Satin finish, was very settled on the black finish after seen all the badass photos online. However in person the black finish to me had sort of a visual effect which made the face look offset. Satin had way more fluid transistion between hosel and clubhead - once again showing the importance to actually see stuff out.

The flight window was very consistent and while I've with my current wedges tend, during misses, to produce a weak pushy flight the MG3s were still consistent and penetrating.

Same flight window with 58 as with current 56.

Had no issues with the stock shaft, that said I'm X100 AMT in irons so should be minimal feel difference. Half inch longer and midsize grips with Standard bounce on both 52 and 58.

Worst thing is wait of delivery until mid October - just when season starts to close in Sweden.

Order in… 52, 56TW, 60TW.

Actually got 2 of the 60’s so I can beat one up at my clubs short game area and keep one fresh.

Are you seeing a lot of difference between the TW and normal MG3?

Got my TW MG3’s today. Haven’t hit them yet but to be perfectly honest, if there were no TW stamp I’d have no clue they were any different from a regular MG3. Especially the 60. 😂🤷‍♂️

Jesus, I wish I saw this before I just asked this very question. 😂

In all fairness I haven’t hit the TW’s yet. I got to hit a 52 last month at a pga superstore and thought it felt great. I’m coming off the first gen hi toe’s so the mg3’s are very different to look down at now. Tomorrow I’ll get to hit them and play my first round with them.

Got a chance to sneak out to my club today and bang around the 60* TW. Really really like it. Feels night and day compared to my old hi toes. I also have the P7TW’s and I think the mg3’s feel similar. Very nice.

Also took it over to the short game area for an hour or so and it really shines there. Love how it sits on the turf especially when you lay it open. Leading edge stay down and is great to look down at. Performed well on open faced tight lies as well as square faced checkers. Excited to mess around with the 56.

I’m looking to transition from my Nike Engage wedges but going 1 at a time…starting with the 52’

Im not sure which way to go in terms of bounce.

My home course is a strange mix…9 of the holes are firm ground and almost links style fairways, the second 9 is parkland with softer turf

The Nike 52’ has 11’ of bounce whereas the MG3 are 9 or 12….my wedge game is strong and the Nikes are the first wedge that I’ve almost never chunked!

Nowhere has the high bounce MG3 to try but I’m slightly wary of dropping bounce

Any thoughts…is 2’ on a 52 wedge gonna be noticeable? Will the 9’ dig easier?

For anyone who went from the mg2's to the mg3's, what are your thoughts so far.   I was able to set up to some kids mg3 yesterday and took one swing with it.   I actually love the squared off look of the mg3.   It also felt noticeably softer than the mg2.   It was hard to thoroughly test is as the kid is really small and 11 yrs old. 😞

I have never considered the TM wedges in the last several iterations.  I hit this one a whim at GG and loved the feel.  Was totally surprised.

Is the Tiger grind similar to Vokey V grind? @iteachgolf

The 56° wedge is a dual sole with heavy heel relief, while the 60° has an extremely high bounce on the leading edge with a shaved heel. This makes it possible to open the face for flop shots, while still providing relief on the leading edge for better performance on tight lies.

Haven’t seen one in person but it’s very similar what the V grind accomplishes

I’m all in.  Just can’t decide if I want bounce in my 60° for sand, or if I want heel relieve for open face shots on tighter lies.

Being raw, they'll rust up pretty quick I am sure. Just buy some CLR and keep it in a plastic paint container with a lid. when they get too rusty for you, soak the head in the CLR bath for a few minutes and then rinse them off. That'll take off most of the rust. You could hit them with a scotch brite dish washing pad to scrub more rust off if you want. You can re-use that stuff over and over, and it works much better than coke or vinegar. It also won't affect the paint fill at all, and its not a harsh chemical.
