Jupiter Trip in Oct. 2021

Hello,

We have a family vacation to Jupiter Fl. in October.   Wife gave me the ok to play 4 times while we are there.

I'm looking for nicest public courses in the area.  My budget is about $200/rd., but that could increase for the right course(I live in the Bay Area, so my sense of what stuff costs is way off).

Looking for plush.  Tee boxes that look like putting greens, fluffy sand, baby butt smooth greens, ect.

Abacoa is the nicest public course in Jupiter and they consistently have the nicest conditions year round. By far the best greens of any public nearby and better than a lot of the privates. October is still not quite peak season so conditions may not be their optimal at other courses.

Aside from Abacoa, North Palm Beach is a good bet, as is Hammock Creek. Conditioning won’t be as good as Abacoa but they are solid courses. While the Jupiter area is a hot bed for golf a lot of it is private, so unfortunately not a lot of top tier publics in the area.

I haven’t played Florida Club since they regressed their course, but everyone I know who has played there since they have regressed it have said conditions there are immaculate, so you may want to consider that one as well. I’m not as big a fan of their layout, however.

The Breakers Courses should fit your conditioning requirements. I think Florida Club is a good call; under its new ownership it has been terrific each time I've been there.

The three courses at PGA Village up in Port St. Lucie should also be to your liking.

I thought the Breakers courses were private?

And might as well ask here instead of starting a new thread - I'll be in Jupiter the last weekend of August and had planned on playing Abacoa and Florida Club. FC is closed for maintenance until August 1 and Abacoa until August 4.

Will that be enough time for greens to recover, or should I be looking for somewhere else to play?

abacoa, north palm beach CC, and breakers are really your best bet for public in Jupiter area.  If willing to travel North then you will have a few more options.  Like its been stated Jupiter is tough as ALL the best/better courses are private.

Highly recommend Florida club. its quintessential Florida residential golf, but in immaculate shape! Its worth the drive north to check out. Its flat, everywhere in Florida is flat, so get ready for flat golf.

I have never done it, but Boxgroove website allows you to get on private clubs. I saw Hobe Sound Golf Club is on there. Worth a check maybe. There are a few others on there inside a 45min drive.

Florida club had better conditions than the expensive private course I played as a kid. In order of priority to check out:

Florida club (Stuart)

north palm

abacoa

Then maybe palm beach par 3 or play the one you like best again. Haven’t played the breakers so I can’t speak to it. There’s also a few more nice courses in Stuart (30 mins), and I’ve heard great things about pga village (40-45 mins)

Avoid golf club of Jupiter. Sandhill crane is decent if you can’t find a tee time elsewhere or something.

They should be good by then. If you’re concerned, or you play one and it turns out I’m wrong and it’s not enough time, consider north palm. I prefer north palm to abacoa, frankly. The fairway conditions at abacoa aren’t great during the summer (tbh I don’t know how they are in season, I assume better since it’s 3 times as much to play). North palm is pristine and the greens are a nightmare in a good way. Disclosure: I play abacoa like 4x/week during the summer so it might be a bit less appealing to me because of lack of novelty.

Check out Fox Club - really fun layout and conditions are usually good. It is up in Palm City but if you thinking driving to Florida Club I would recommend Fox Club instead.

Palm Beach Par 3 is a must. Just a really fun Par 3 course on the ocean with a great restaurant/views.

If you can get on Breakers Ocean or West they will be your best courses for conditions.

North Palm Beach is another fun layout with a great restaurant/clubhouse.

+1 on Fox Club & Florida Club. Also played the PGA Village Ryder Course a few weekends ago and I'd recommend that as well. Never played Abacoa, might have to make my way down there soon!

Ryder course is the easiest at PGA Village.  They play tournaments on the Wanamaker, although I don't understand why.  Unless it has to do with proximity to the clubhouse, because I think the Dye is a better course.  All three worth playing though if you are in the neighborhood.
