Charlotte Course Recommendation

Headed to Charlotte next month for a couple of days. Wanting to get a round in. Never been, so any recommendations greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

We are going for a Panthers game, so staying near the stadium.

If you want to drive a bit, I used to play a place called Stonebridge in Monroe. Haven't been there in a couple of years, but it was super nice and a pretty cool layout. May want to check reviews to see what folks are saying about it nowadays. I know it was up for sale.

Stonebridge is in good shape normally. I am actually playing there this weekend.

Honestly the public options in charlotte aren't that great.  You'll have to drive to surrounding areas to find something worth while.  Rocky River is pretty good. It's beside the race track. Would recommend Ballntyne resort but they leveled the course to build shops and offices.

If you don't mind driving a bit, Carolina Lakes is a fun layout.  Not sure what condition it's in.  The best golf in Charlotte, especially within proximity to the stadium are all private.

Yeah I used to only play Ballantyne when I was in Charlotte which was a pretty interesting, albeit resort, course. It cut through an office park and had an uphill par 5 that had office buildings (with HUGE windows) all down the left, haha. Bulldozing that course was a real shame but so was building it in the middle of all those office buildings. Kind of had a TPC Southwind (Memphis) look to it (not necessarily a compliment).

Sifford is a fun 9 hole course that would be super convenient to Uptown and is in surprisingly good shape for the amount of play it gets.  Ballantyne is now temporarily a public park.  If you have private club connections, Carolina Golf Club or Cedarwood would be worth a shot.  Fort Mill is a good option as well.

Charlotte resident here. As others have mentioned, our public golf is a pretty tough scene and you’d be looking at 30 minute drive from uptown. Mooresville, Monroe, and Fort Mill all have original 9’s by Ross and newer 9’s that are meh. Unless you have private connection or just desperate to play, I’d recommend spend the day at Whitewater Center instead.
