Favorite Wedge????

New to Zipcore from SM6's. Grew up with Cleveland wedges. Switched to Vokeys 10 years ago.

The Zipcore just set up like classic Clevelands. Very big fan. I seem to have more confidence with the Zipcores.

My GW, SW and LW are from 1018 forged wedges from Scratch Golf, now defunct.  National Custom Works is the resurrection of Scratch Golf.  While I really like the GW and SW, I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my LW.  This wedge (58 degrees) has become probably my favorite in my bag.  The feel and response are terrific.  Great wedges.

I still have all my Scratch wedges, 1018 DD, and pulled them out of the attic last week while I wait for new irons. Forgot how amazing they were and how easy it was to order from them. Miss that........

I have a 58 degree DS LW and it has a lot of life left.  I also have a new backup for when I need to replace my gamer.  I’m thankful for that.

RTX zipcore for me.  Switched from sm8s and the zipcores are much more forgiving to me with a softer feel.  Also, just recently got a full face 60 with the 9 degree bounce.  I played with the 60 mid and 60 low and the 60 full face to me is a great compromise with more spin on mishits between the two IMO.

The new TM MG3's look fantastic! I also love the looks of the new full face Cleveland Zipcores.

Great looking wedges.

Zipcore for me. I have 52(mid), 58(full) and 62(low). Great wedges with variety of bounces to cover all types of shot. I had Mizuno previously which I liked a lot but these are a definite step up.

Damn I have a 52 and 58, but scared to buy a 62. Do you primarily use the 62 or 58 around the greens?

The Callaway MD5 Jaws X Grind. Everything I ask it to do, it obliges. Full shot, flop shot, sand, tight lie whatever. I have the 58 degree and when I open it up, it pops the ball straight up on flops. It makes a 60 or 62 unnecessary. The only adjustment was having to swing harder from the sand than when I carried a 56 degree sand wedge, but that wasn’t a problem. Roger Cleveland is doing great work for Callaway.

All preference on feel I guess, but Vokeys are really second to none. I'm currently getting fitted for a whole new setup (first time ever), and sticking with vokey wedges P-LW.

What's in the bag:

Fairway Wood: Sim Max 3w w/ HZRDUS Smoke Yellow 6.5

Irons: Taylormade P7MC 4-P w/ DG X100

I would use either depending on the lie and type of shot. I play a lot of chip and runs with 9 iron when possible but if not off a fairly standard lie/situation I would go 58. 62 is great when more loft is required or from thick rough. Actually used it in a bunker last week when there was little green to work with and holed it for a 2 which was nice. Superb wedges, would definitely recommend them.

Vokeys > Clevelands not even close. Trust me I wanted to fall for Cleveland hype but there are better wedges.

I tried to move Vokey.  Bought SM7 and couldn’t get along with them at all.   Ended up going PM Grind Callaway and then to Ping Glide 3.0.  The Glides have been the best wedges I’ve owned to date.

even with that I’m looking at Zipcores or MG3 as replacements.  May end up with new set of 3.0 Glides.

I am in th emarket for a new wedge and currently play a Vokey......its been fine, but i may be looking for another wedge that feels a little better and creates a bit more spin. Would like a nice classic shape like the vokey....any suggestions?

I have two 2016 Vokey SM6 wedges in the bag, and both still spin the ball on command.  The only type of wedge head material that will feel softer, leaving the ball on the face fractionally longer, is a forged 1018/1020 pure wedge head, like Miura.

Keep in mind, grooves are for grit, not to create spin.  There are wedges with different face surfaces and slightly different groove designs, but from my extensive wedge research over the years, and USGA groove stipulations, nothing I've found actually increases spin.

Then there this, studies have shown, all the grooves can be removed from the face of a wedge, and with proper impact the ball will spin just fine.  I have 3 very old 4 club sets of original Snake Eye wedges forged with 1018 by Ernie Vadersen.  They were $175 ea back in the 80s.  They are the best wedges I've ever played.  But, good luck on your hunt.

If that is true, and it may be - I've read it elsewhere, then why do people replace their wedges when the grooves wear?  For better spin out of the rough or trap?

Titleist seems to believe grooves create spin:  https://www.titleist.com/teamtitleist/b/tourblog/posts/when-should-you-replace-your-wedges

Personally, I use wedges for a very long time as I anecdotally haven't seen much of a difference on the course.  My current ones are probably 8 years old.

The Mizuno T20 feel great and spin a lot. Very precise and looking sharp, too.

I‘m probably going for the T22 in the „denim copper“ finish, they look fantastic.

Regarding grind options, BV still is king. Also, they hold up longer due to being cast.

Heard great things about the PING Glide 3.0 as well.

People replace wedges because they believe what OEM's tell them, and hear OEM's say Pro's replace wedges every 3-5 months so assume there must be something to that.  Then there this - club ho mentality, and they beat clubs to death digging to China, and look like crap.  Doesn't mean they no longer spin the ball.

Titleist sells Vokey which is a big $$ maker, so it's no surprise they market a belief that moves product.  My 2016 Vokey's work just fine, however may soon be replaced cause of sand wear marks (appearance) on the soles.  There's nothing wrong with the face or grooves.
