Bushnell Launch Pro Device with Foresight

I generally agree with that sentiment, however I would be far more comfortable with using third party software if it were endorsed and supported by FS versus "jail-breaking" the device.  Time will tell what the real world options are, but fwiw Foresight's position is apparently that the device is not 3rd party compatible if you play by the rules.

The point someone made earlier I think will apply here.

Foresight Sports "locked" out the Quad to force people to have to purchase an FSX License.  The BLP and GC3 will apparently (at least initially) not be able to be purchased without software. That said, I'd be surprised, since the software money ($3k or $800 yearly) will already be in their pockets, if they play the "lockout" game.  I'm sure like the Quad, 3rd party software will also have workarounds for the BLP/GC3.

I hope there is an easy work-around too.  My original response was to someone saying that the FS website lists it as 3rd party compatible, which at this point is misleading.  People who buy based on that advertising and premise will be pretty disappointed in having to jail-break their $7k toy.  I won't be using mine as a guinea pig, but do hope that it is proves to be doable.

I understand.  One last point..

These devices aren't jailbroken like a phone typically is so there is no potential harm to any hardware.  It's usually software on the PC you're connecting the launch monitor to that performs all the breaking (in the form of software), because it's the PC you're connecting to that you're using to siphon all the data points from FSX2020 to then be used by other golf sim software (TGC, etc.).

No firmware or modules are ever installed in the launch monitor so there is zero risk of "bricking" your LM.  The work-arounds are always software and they're only on the PC. In fact, I'd be shocked if the current work-arounds for the Quad won't work for the GC3. We shall see.

Anyone else get the email today about the Full Swing Kit.  Seems suspicious timing.

Website link for the Personal Launch Monitor:

https://www.fullswinggolf.com/kit-pre-sale/

$3,999 for the Hardware which is supposed to show most (all?) the metrics FS/BLP is providing.

More info required from Full Swing!  Any more details in the email?

Just that the indoor functionality won’t be present until sometime in q1 2022. And they won’t share info on what it will entail until then.  But you’ll be able to spend $4k on the device soon.

WOW. Talk about a red flag.  Hey we need to not lose 1005 of our potential market to GC3/LP so we’re going to throw this thing out that we haven’t been able to get to work for 2 years now.

Exactly. The market for this thing is essentially dead on arrival because they’ve taken so long.

That's encouraging.  I didn't know that it was a PC based work-around.  Thanks for the explanation.  Does that mean it's invisible to FS?

Yes, invisible to FS.

It's just smarter folks than me, who find a way to extract the data points of each shot that can then be used by other 3rd party software. That's really all that's going on.

Heck, I stumbled upon a way to use the Dongle version of FSX2020 without an actual dongle. I've been able to replicate on every pc I've tried. 😉

Something I have learned from the car scene, where there is a will, there is a way regarding cracking ECU / computer data points. It always cracks me up how BMW or Audi talk about their unbreakable ECU and then a few months down the line, someone cracks it and then the flood gates open for tuning.

Same comment applies to people looking for a work around on TP software.

It's a little different with Tech.

Mechanically savvy car enthusiasts have confidence in the fact that they can fix an issue outside of warranty. So voiding said warranty is not a big deal to that crowd.

I would not feel comfortable jailbreaking my new BLP and voiding any warranty as there would be no way for me to fix a bricked unit.

It makes me feel a whole lot better that a workaround happens on the tail end and just decodes the data spit out of the machine.

You missed the point where I said ECU (Electronic Control Unit). It is basically the car's computer and in most cases, when the car is hooked up to the server during maintenance, it automatically flags the car for a voided warranty unless the tuner can alter the flash count and other parameters of the tune to make the modification to the ECU unreadable.

Nothing about what I mentioned has anything to do with mechanics and is entirely computer based.

And lol at the hacking a launch monitor versus a car ECU. You realize that if you tune a car and the dealership flags it, then say you throw a rod through the block or something, you're basically stuck with a giant paper weight since the dealer won't touch the car under warranty anymore. I got rid of my BMW M4 because I was tired of worrying about the crank hub grenading the engine in my 80K car that I was running around with 700HP in. Still, I will be tuning my new RS6 when it shows up in December, lol. I'd happily hack a GC3 if it gave me more TP options. Different strokes for different folks.

For those who got a BLP ordered: has your credit card been charged?

Bushnell charges your account but doesn't actually collect from your credit card company until your order ships.  I had a pending charge last week but it has since dropped off my account since Bushnell doesn't collect unit it ships.

Would be curious to know if the fine print says anything about Bushnell's ability to change the subscription - like change how they charge or change what is included (?).  If it is spelled out somewhere pls share. . .

I haven’t bought into any subscription yet so there was no fine print.

We get 1 year of basic free and the 30 days of gold trial so I plan on waiting to sign up for anything until I have to.

Ah ok. That makes sense. I thought I’d seen a charge and then it seemed to disappear.
