In reality my iron approach shots the past few years really is the weakness.  I am thankful one of my strengths is my short game recovery.  It had to be to offset erratic iron approaches.

Eh they’re so shallow dying their hair…I kid I kid. But yes you’re right it’s a cheap trick that is seldom effective, just gotta look closely!

But to legitimately answer the question golfwise the physical traits were there and still are for the most part. But the few years I tried playing after college, I couldn’t do the hotel, flight, rental car, practice round, where to eat, when to eat, what to practice, how to practice, do I lift on travel weeks or just do cardio. And it’s stuff that you gotta figure out and I never did, still don’t now haha but the golfs the easy part. It’s everything else that goes with it.

Lmfao NOPE! I played full time for a few years after college. Never had much success won 5 official events (affiliated with West Florida/TarHeel/Dakotas Tours). Been to sectionals quite a bit, best I ever managed was 3 under a couple times. Played state opens around the country did alright, never close to winning. The closest I ever came to playing the Tour was thru mondays I’d been in playoffs for the Honda a couple times but never got it done.
 

I’m a great player (high school senior athlete of the year, all state selection. 3rd at a junior PGA Full ride to a school that at the bottom of one of the best golf conferences in the country, won events each year I was at college all conference selection, all American selection, AND All academic selection top 20 at national championships.) i guess I thought it would be easy, or easier. Because a lot of the guys I was beating especially in our conference in the southeast were turning pro and I was kinda like well you can’t play for s*** I know I can beat you so lemme check this box here that says professional. Sure you have some deficiencies that you know of and work to address them the best you can you go play and see that it’s ok, the state of my game at least. Like I said I’ve won events with decent cash, but eventually you get to a point where you gotta make a decision and far too many people lie to themselves saying it’s gunna happen it’s gunna happen. I got news for ya, it ain’t you’re just not good enough. Simple as that. 
 

I played with guys on tour regularly, some of my best friends are PGA Tour professionals. I have no qualms playing them straight up when we’re all home in Jupiter. Zero. For whatever (usually we just do dinner and drinks or bait and beers for the next fishing trip). They’re just golfers who are really good but what makes them great is the ability to do it over a season and career. There’s plenty of guys on here that are “pros” that can shoot good scores but look at that Jaacob fella, 85 in a local? I don’t care how bad the weather is 85?! I can’t tell you the last time I’ve played with anyone that’s been north of 82. Usually in our group if you come in at 77 it’s like ugh what happened there? Granted that’s legit pros and former collegiate players that still play competitive rounds but still.

Compounding mistakes.  For a 5 hcp it’s embarrassing how quickly I can have a bad hole and then pile on strokes for a few holes until I get my head out of my a#$.  I also fire at too many pins.  Sometimes I just can’t slow down and think about what I’m doing.  I won’t realize I just fired at a pin until I’ve missed the green and left myself short sided or some such.  Then I try to recreate the shot and realize I just got a number and blindly tried to knock down the pin.  Lately, I’ve been forcing myself to pick a target other than the pin on every approach shot.  If the pin is dead center in the middle of a flat green I still pick a spot 1 foot right and 1 foot short (or whatever) and play to that, just to get better at slowing down and picking targets other than the pin.

Making makable mid-length putts. Tee to green and lag putting wise, my game is where I think it should be as a longer hitting 2.5 handicap.

 

However, I really struggle with putts from 8'-20'

fairway wood play off the deck. I rarely hit the shot. I don't know if I rarely hit the shot cuz it's my weakness.....or if it's my weakness cuz I rarely hit the shot

The back 9. Can’t concentrate and stay focused for that long, and always throw in some bad holes on the second 9. Golf should be a 12 hole game, and be done in a hour and half tops.
