How to de-loft iron shots?

Can you suggest a "swing thought" that has helped you lower your launch angle?

My ball flight is straight (no visible draw or fade) and launch angle is really high.

I can carry a 7 iron about 155 yds and my PW/AW "look like" lob shots, if you know what I mean.

This could be terrible advice to follow blindly, but I recall some old Mike Austin videos where he mentions there’s a correlation between position of sternum and low point.
 

e.g. Get your sternum more forward at impact and your low point is sure to follow. Very difficult to add loft when you do that. But how you do it is important, and I’m not qualified to comment on that 🙂

 

edit: anecdotal, but my low point is about 4” ahead and I have no problem de-lofting. also a straight ball hitter. YMMV

You typically accomplish this just by having the ball position further back in your stance and pressing your hands forward. I typically play the ball inside my back foot and have my hands pressed forward. Just like a glorified punch shot.

Yes, and just to add when you do place it back in your stance, remember that your grip has to adjust. Don’t take your normal grip setup and just place it back there. If you do, you will have a face that will be closed at setup. Hope that makes sense.

This is easy and you'll get the advice on how so I wont bother saying BUT.... just make SMALL adjustments. 

 

No need for huge changes keep them tiny that way it wont mess with your swing and you'll only change the height the ball flies and not throw everything out of WACK!

Mike Bender has Instragram video where he talks about basically slamming the club into the ground. That’s been big for my ball striking. I literally feel like I’m throwing the club into the ground. Gets me into a great impact position.

Without seeing your swing to determine why you hit it too high you'll do more harm than good chasing a lower ballflight. 

 

If your launch angle is too high at those carry distances it's highly likely that you're releasing the club way too early, but that will almost definitely be a compensation so you can hit the ball. Post a video and we can give you advice that isn't a bandaid. 🙂

Go to a fitter and have your shafts checked. They may be the wrong ones for you.
