Golf swing without any wrist rotation

Recommended Posts

I’ve developed a golf swing without any wrist rotation. And since the swing path in the downswing could be described as going over the top there’s no need to turn the hips in order to set the club on path in the downswing. The club is already set on the right plane at the beginning of the downswing. All in all, the swing is very repeatable and effective, and takes timing out of the equation. I highly recommend everyone to try it out.

If you wanna hit driver 205 yards. Sure

The technique allows you to hit as soft or hard shots as you want with full control.  That’s because the club is set on the right plane already at the top of the backswing. This is shown more explicit in this short video.

Thanks for sharing, sounds interesting!

Any chance of a side-by-side with a "conventional" swing for comparison?

Although I'm sure it's clear as day to the trained eye - as a lay person I can't quite see what it is that you're doing so differently.

Well, if you watch what the pros do, they don’t rotate their arms that much in relation to their pivot.

If you get your backswing on or above that shaft plane you’ll really start hitting it well.  Also, you are over swinging by a large amount. If you stopped at about a 3/4 swing your consistency would be off the charts.

Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.

Thank you for your interest. I think that one of the main differences is that there is no wrist rotation in the back/downswing until after the impact. Another main difference is the swing path, whereas in a conventional  golf swing it is necessary to shallow out the shaft plane in the downswing.

You can check out the included videos for your own comparison. The red and blue lines in the first videos shows the swing path of the grip end.

Longtime lurker, first post on this site. Had to comment because coincidentally I've also been experimenting with something like this recently. My consistency has quadrupled in percentage ever since limiting my "roll" of the forearms. At a certain point you do have to roll them a little bit near the top (or at least I feel like it), but minimizing it has worked wonders.

It seems this is a very similar technique. Doesn't Dustin Johnson also do something pretty similar? He calls it "square to target" at the top...but that could be just due to his dramatically flexed lead wrist at the top.

But basically what I do is

  • Keep face "square" to path for as long as possible, feels closed basically
  • Keep as much width as possible in the swing on the way up and down
  • Keep wrist c0ck for as long as possible on the way down, until proper release point
  • Turn body aggressively to help square it
  • Release with the thought of clubface square to target the whole time and on the way through

I haven't been using this for very long, and my terminology might be incorrect as I'm not too familiar with terms instructors or pros would normally use.

True. To find a good top of backswing position makes golf so much easier. Not so much can go wrong when the downswing is along a straight line and there is no rotation of the forearms. Maybe you can get some help or ideas from this video.
