Very astute of you…yes, the rules do change from time ti time.  But do you really foresee a time when 1.2 is modified? Where intentionally distracting another player would be allowed?

Guy in my group runs out to his truck near the first tee and brings out a speaker that barely fit in the basket of the golf cart.

Talk about a long day……

edited to add….I voted NO in the poll.   It does need to be banned completely…..but courses need to be more diligent about getting some speakers volume lowered.

If your music does not spill out beyond your cart no one complains.

I think that it's because music on the course is somewhat of a recent phenomenon. Many players aren't just used to it. Now, count me as one who does not want to get used to it, but I am also someone to stop other conversations when someone else is hitting.

I tried to practice on the range with airpods, but I could not focus, hear the shot, or hit the shot. That experiment ended quickly. 😆

True about sound when practicing.  You learn the quality of strike with the sound. This is why I never listen to music while playing or practicing.

Typical non-answer when you've been had - resort to snark.

When the rule changes, we'll let you know.  :classic_laugh:

I love how many have shared that they don’t mind music on the course- just as long as it’s not rap or hip hop…

I hope that’s just cognitive dissonance and not a more serious ailment.

Not me… my golf playlist has plenty of old school hip hop on it. I think it can work on the course just has to be the right vibe.

I wonder if the people that are opposed to music playing are opposed to the guy that insists on bringing his burning cigar to the tee box, fairway while he is waiting to hit, and on the green. I personally don't care what people do, but if I had to call someone out, the cigar bothers me much worse than the music playing.

I have played golf on courses that run next to major interstates, on Naval/AF air bases (even played a couple of times at Langley AFB, while the Thunderbirds were practicing their routine), next to a police firing range (and they just don't shoot their dept.-issued 9 MM), etc. The music is really a non-issue to me (I do agree that it should be kept at a lower level).

love music on the golf course,

i play on different groups through the week at my club, everyone enjoys music

its a pretty relax environment with drinking and gambling involved

I've played a few rounds where other groups were playing music, I didn't hear it unless I was like 6-10ft from their cart and honestly I'm completely fine with that. If I'm hearing it from another hole then turn that sh*t down, I don't want to hear Imagine Dragons.

I play music and most people I play with always do. Subtle and not too loud to distract other people playing. If we don’t know each other we always give the courtesy of checking with them to make sure it doesn’t bother them.

Then again, I’d rather be paired up with someone blasting music than some hack who can’t break 100. Talk about distracting.

what is the main reason people play music on the course.

Ignorance about proper golf etiquette and, or, lack of good manners.

I'm assuming the poll refers to music through loud speakers?

I think it's unfair to draw any conclusions from the poll given that ambiguity.

I sometimes listen to music or radio using ear buds when I play on my own.. I wouldn't want that banned.

So far I haven't come across anyone actually playing music on the course, it doesn't (thankfully) seem to be an issue around here.. yet. But I'd hate to hear someone else's music across the course. The world is very "black and white", "with me or against me", cancel- and ban-happy these days.. so I'll settle for music through loud speakers being strongly discouraged 🙂

Listening to one’s taste of music at a non-obnoxious level in their own cart after confirming with playing partners that is doesn’t “bother” them is not ignorance of proper golf etiquette or lack of good manners.

Playing with folks far less accomplished than myself is no big deal.  Their joy at making a par or a good bogey is just as genuine as mine when I hole out for eagle.  I view it as my responsibility go play with folks of all abilities.  It is an honor to play with folks who appreciate my game as much as many poorer players do.  It makes their day.

However, playing with someone who feels entitled to impose their music (any music) on myself and others is not something I appreciate.  It shows they care far more about their general entertainment than playing golf.  Giggle and hit golf is not enjoyable to me.

I was mildly trolling. But one could say that it’s more of an entitlement of old fashioned ways that someone gets bent out of shape for someone else enjoying their round and having a good time just because it’s not how they think golf should be played.

Literally exactly this.  The longer I've played golf the more I value the culture of respect that is core to golf.

We can respect traditional aspects while still considering what repspect means today in golf.  To me, that's an inclusive environment where we are considerate of those around us.

I don't play with music, but respect someone else's right to enjoy some tunes as long as it doesn't bother other groups on the course.

For courses, I feel for you, because I think the rules around music would probably be really tricky to navigate. Written correctly, they would need to be the same for all golfers and enforced equally.

I'd be curious to see what would happen if you put four newbie lady golfers out on Saturday morning who were playing music...wonder how many calls that starter would get?
