Project X 6.0 vs DG 120 S300

Hello guys,

Quick question for you. I'm currently playing KBS Tour 120 stiff and my ball flight is quite high. However I like the KBS feel.

I went through a fitting for srixon ZX7 and the guy gave me project x 6.0 for lower flight.

When I check true temper website, I read that project x is more for fast tempo (which is not my case), while DG 120 is for moderate tempo.

Have you experienced a difference of feel between project x 6.0 and DG 120 S300? Which one provides the better feedback?

I've tried both during the fitting but it's hard to tell with 10 golf balls...

My only fear is not to have any feedback with project x while DG 120 would have been better, but perhaps I'm worried for nothing and the difference is small.

Thank you very much!

Im a slower swinger.. 7 iron about 150... 4iron 180... ive different iron shafts. Nippon gh 95 stiff... nippon 120 xstiff which yes goes pretty high but also the right distance and work well... kbs $taper 120 stiff which was a great combination of lower flight and amazing feel. Didnt feel too boardy at all.. i agree i like kbs alot... but... i found a set of xforged18 irons in excellent shape a few months ago...  problem was they came in project x 6.0... which ive heard were supposedly very boardy and only for very fast swings. I ended up buying them to try out and it turns out they are the best shaft i have played so far in terms of lowering ball flight. I also feel they are stiff without being undoable or boardy. The feel is very good and getting a ton of stop on the greens. Im also hitting my usual distance just fine. Ive swung the dg before also and they felt somewhat heavier and stiffer to me... maybe not completely undoable but i prefer the project x. I think a project x 5.5 would really perfect.

Here's the deal.  PX 6.0 will launch lower than KBS Tour but higher than S300.  Tempo doesn't matter as much as the fitter stated for steel shafts.  The flight, spin and numbers do.  Feel is subjective, but to me, the best feeling shaft is the KBS Tour then S300 then the PX 6.0.

Is your 7i 170 carry or 170 total? PX 6.0 is a drastically stiffer profile vs. DG 120 S300. That said, if you got fit at a reputable place, the next step is not to go home and Google shaft profiles and what they should do. You get fit into things for a reason and your particular swing may have worked well with the fitted shaft even though it may not theoretically fit from what’s on the tin.

As a side note, 99% of the time people say they’re hitting the ball too high it’s because they’re flipping at impact. I know this because I use to do it. No shaft will fix that. People assume that action is for slow swing high handicappers but that isn’t always the case. Doing it with speed can result in ridiculous height on shots. Not sure if you got dynamic loft numbers while you were there but it’s a good starting point. As it happens though, if you’re in the high 80s to low 90s with a 7i the PX 6.0 is a great shaft. I have played PX 6.5 for quite a while now and really enjoy it.

Never choose a shaft based on what you read about profiles. PX 6.0 and s300 would feel very different to most, but there are always some that may not notice.  Sounds like maybe that’s not the best fitter out there.
