7 wood vs hybrid

I hook every hybrid. Is a 7 wood any better?

It depends, I have tried some that are much better, for example the Ping G410, which you can also put in a flat setting, although I don't need to.  I have tried some others like the Callaway Rouge Heaven Wood that hooked quite a bit.  

 

From my experience start with checking out Titleist or Ping, they always seem pretty neutral.

Most likely, yes you should have less tendency to hook a 7 wood.

Some hybrids, like the PXG and Ping G425,  I don't have hooking issues with them with the right shaft.

 

The 7 wd will go higher, probably have less propensity to go left with the right shaft.

 

But a hybrid is a tad better out of the rough - just less mass going through, and the hybrid has a shorter shaft length so you are prone to be more consistent with it. Just depends on what you like and talent,

I switched to woods this year  and never plan to look back... I love my new 7 wood and the best part of it.. no more hooks 

I picked up the new cobra rad with the rails...i have no issues getting out of anything

I have a 4 wood length shaft in my 7 wood and it works great.

 

I hit a hard draw with everything, but this club goes straight, its my 220 club.

I recently switched to a 7 wood after trying various hybrids I hooked them too. I haven't had it long but seems easier to hit w/o a hook.

I read that the 7 wood replaces the 4 hybrid and that seems right to me. It's very versatile. Pondering replacing my 5 iron with a 5 hybrid.

yes, I have. That's one place where the 7W really shines giving you solid distance out of rough. Beats 3H easy. // Also good on longish par 3 holes, and for clean-up approaches into par 5 holes.

 

To find out the overlap point, you just have to hit the 7W and hybrid. With my old set-up, distance came at 7W and 3H. On season, 3H was better in winter with thin rough, and higher winds... 3H launches lower.

Which hybrids have you tried? If you square up clubface well, go for hybrid with square face (i.e., Cobra or Tour Edge). Many hybrids have strong offset to make them "easier to hit than long irons," but if you square up well this is too much of a good thing.

 

Also, consider ball position. If you hit hybrid like a fairway wood, you may have ball too far forward in stance. Too far forward leads to left misses because the clubface has closed down too much by impact. Play it back and hit down on  it like an iron, and see it shots are straighter.

7 wood is much better for me, tsi2. If they made it in a 9 wood I’d get it also.

I have a TSi2 7 wood and a TSi3 hybrid. The hybrid hooks less for me than the 7 wood.

 

I haven’t played a hybrid in the last 5-8 seasons because I couldn’t find any that I liked or was confident hitting. They all went left for me also, but the TSi3 is really good.

 

I have it set at C1; lower loft and flatter lie angle with the weight in the toe. It has no draw bias at all.

I tried this experiment to address a specific gap in my bag. I have a 4 wood length shaft in a lofted down 7 wood and a 2 hybrid. For me, they both go the same distance but the 7 wood goes much higher. The 7 wood is a little easier out of the rough because the loft is higher. Fewer draw/hooks with the 7 wood. 

 

For the moment the 2 hybrid is in the bag. The 7 wood goes a little too high even after I lofted it down. However, I like having both even though one spends its time in the spare club bag.

I always had problems with consistency with my woods off the tee in regards to dispersion and flight., until I applied a truncated version of Howard’s DIY driver tune up. Now I carry a 16.5* wood and a 19* Wood 

 

Once I found the right shaft profile and weight. I cut the shaft to desired length and fine tuned with lead tape. 

i ended up with a Evenflow Black 85 6.0 in both my clubs. 

 

 The 16.5* plays 42 inches, tipped 1/2 more than recommended with 4 grams of lead tape on the bottom  and in my 19* I ended up at 41.5” with 1/2” tipping as well, and no lead tape. 
 

They both are my new favorite clubs. They are both mid/mid and very capable of the deck and tee as well. I bought the 19* to be a club to hit off the deck primarily, but I have found it to be great off the tee as well. 
 

Im playing a course that forces you to not hit driver on a couple of par 5’s off the tee, so they will both get some action tomorrow

So I've got a 21* 7 wood, a 23* hybrid, and a 23.5* driving iron, and they're all in the bag.

 

The 7w goes 230y on a good strike, the 23* hybrid about 215 with roll, the #4 driving iron about 200y carry. 

 

Probably don't need them all, but I only have 3 wedges (including PW). The 7w is very versatile, but when I want some distance and straightness, I go for the hybrid.
