Someone hands you a $1,500 Check…

If I had to spend most of it on a putter, I'd start interviewing custom guys and have them make me a dream side saddle putter.  I figure some of them would like the challenge and do something different than the Anser knock offs :).

I've always wanted to win one of those GolfWRX full bag fittings at TM or Callaway and see them try to get a side saddle put together, I think they could figure something out in a few days, but it would be very interesting to see what they'd try to make to replace my BG F-22.

$1500. I would take a nice golf vacation. Great memories you will have. When you buy clubs you will second guess yourself thinking did I buy the right ones for me? You will never second guess a great golf trip.

Say that again when you shoot 100 two days in a row.

I'd probably go for a fitting with David Edel because I'm keen to get fitted into one of their putters.  I want to know 100% that I'm aimed correctly.  Second option would be to get fit and have a custom Kevin Burns made because I'm just in love with how they look.

If someone gave you a $1,500 check to buy a putter what would you get with it? A $40 used odyssey and pocket the rest, possibly for lessons? A custom Olson, Byron, Mannkrafted? Second hand Hive Bettinardi? I hate what if questions but some buddies and I ran this scenario and thought it was an interesting topic

What does everyone think?

Take a trip to ... Nashville, come visit us in Franklin, TN (20 minutes south of Nashville) and book a Tour Fitting Experience with one of our SPi Instructors.  Play some golf in the surrounding area while using your new SeeMore putter.  (knock out two birds with one stone ... and maybe make a few on the course.)  See you soon - [email protected]!!  Love to have you.

We all know that most people won’t pay $1500 for a putter. I wish this thread would have begun with the stipulation that you have to spend all the money on a putter. Then we wouldn’t have generic answers about how people like to spend their entertainment money.

I would spend all of the money on a solid copper Lajosi Sensor with a full face Damascus insert with v grooves.

Advice if you are shooting 100. Spend $1500 bucks on golf lessons. Clubs aren’t going to help much.If that doesn’t work they have great golf video games so maybe play great golf that way.

You sound about as fun as punched greens and temp tee boxes.

I own my fair share of CT's, Tour Bettis, some second hand custom putters (Byron, Lajosi, etc) and other OTR putters....here's my conclusion:

There's a certain cumulation of variables in putters that will fit your eye, sound/feel and rhythm of your putting stroke.  They don't all have to be the same, but there's some combo that makes it work "better" than others of the same or higher value...and it can be subtle.

For me...2 putters have stuck out above all else and they are not the most expensive ones I've bought...a Bettinardi flow neck DASS BB8 which is a touch wider than the standard and with softer lines/corners.  It has a line on the flange and is about 34.5"...head weight of about 350g.  The other is a Lajosi Sensor which is SS, 34-34.5", plumbers neck...a bit more compact than the flowneck bb8, but also 350g.

So there are some very consistent things...more compact head which is pleasing to the eye at address (vs. Mallet), SS vs. carbon, no beach/slot in the head, similar length and weight.  The subtle different I suspect is that they both have the same loft and lie angle (I've found I prefer it a touch flat).

IF I were given $1500...I'd probably spend the time to figure out exactly why those putters stand above the rest and target a future purchase with those exact specs.  For now...I know they work...so they will stay in the bag more often.

I own a putter that I paid a little over $100 for that was the best putter in the shop for me at a custom club fitter.  While I am sure I could find a really nice looking putter that performed as well I doubt if I would putt better with it.  Plus I would be constantly nervous I would ding it and have to fiddle with keeping it safe all of the time.

I'd take the money and go buy a new set of irons, which I have been thinking about for a while now.

Ping G400 Testing G410.  10.5 set at small -
Ping G410 3, 5 and 7 wood

Vokey 54.10, 2009 58.12 M, Testing TM MG2 60* TW grind and MG3 56* TW grind.  Or Ping Glide Stealth, 54,58 SS.

Obviously each to their own, but having owned tons of putters (from most of the bespoke/boutique guys) I keep coming back to a full hive/tour spec Bettinardi. The current BB0 I have is just unreal, especially with a stability tour installed as well. So my money would go on getting another one of them I think!
